just back from the game firstly night and day compared to the u`19s game much better football rather than kick it long to the smallest guy on the park, but tonight it was all them the first 15 mins but as soon as we scored it was one way traffic a good all round performance by the u`17s. the young czech boy in the paper for the manky mob last week should have been sent off with a blatant kick out and a headbutt both caught by the ref but the man in black was a disgrace letting the altar boys away with everything but a few stars for the future in that team hopefully next 3-4 years we will all be seeing them pushing for a starting place !!

Well done the youngsters always good to hear them doing well.

Reports from the official site for your perusal. :21:

Andrew Dickson reports from Broadwood

ALAN KERNAGHAN reckons Kyle McAusland has all the attributes he needed to make it as a striker after his Glasgow Cup final winner against Celtic.

The forward added to Adam Hunter's opener in the Old Firm clash at Broadwood to give Rangers a 2-0 lead ahead of Custis Jones' late consolation for the Parkhead team.

Adam Hunter celebrates his opening goalMcAusland did well and was a constant thorn in the opposition's defence - but under-17 manager Kerno feels he has even more to offer if he applies himself correctly.

He said: "I thought Kyle showed some real endeavour when he got up and had another go to score the goal having gone for the original ball with the keeper.

"We were on his case for the majority of the game to give us a bit more energy and determination and at that point he did.

"If I'm honest, I don't think Kyle gives people enough problems for someone of his size and ability at times.

"He perhaps doesn't hurt teams enough because he is very quick but we have to remember he is only 17 and calm down a little.

"Kyle has a lot of attributes which, if he works hard on them and keeps his head down, can help him become a really good player."

Kernaghan was pleased to see the Light Blues come out on top in a tense derby despite spending much of the tie on the back foot.

They got their goals against the run of play but then showed great professionalism and composure to ensure they weren't pegged back and taken to penalties.

Rangers celebrate winning the Glasgow CupKernaghan added: "We had a very nervous start and were getting rid of the ball far quicker than we needed to.

"The longer the first half went on, the more we started to play and we caused Celtic problems, even if it wasn't as much as we had hoped.

"I must admit our opponents played pretty well on the night but we scored goals at the right times to win it.

"We had our backs to the wall for spells in the second half and I wish we could have kept a clean sheet but the biggest thing was to win.

"We are delighted about that. We told the players before the game that it was more important to win and wasn't necessarily about the performance and they produced."

Rangers U17 2-1 Celtic U17

FIRST-HALF goals from Adam Hunter and the impressive Kyle McAusland gave Rangers a deserved 2-1 win over Celtic to retain the Glasgow Cup.

It took time for Alan Kernaghan's team to find their rhythm in the final of the competition in Cumbernauld.

Kyle McAusland celebratesBut after taking a lead against the run of play then building on it before the break, they saw out the game with a professional showing in the second period.

Even a late consolation couldn't stop the Ibrox teenagers and the result gave them revenge over their Old Firm rivals for last week's SFA Youth Cup final defeat.

Gers were impressive as they won the final of this tournament last year, with Kane Hemmings scoring both goals in a 2-1 victory.

But they were slow out of the blocks as they went for a second successive tournament win in front of several hundred supporters.

Celtic had the bulk of the early possession, with midfielder Paul George at the heart of most things they did.

But the Parkhead side seldom tested Light Blues goalkeeper Blair Currie and the closest they came to scoring in the early stages was through Patrik Twardzik.

Even then, his drive from 30 yards was always sailing over and his brother Filip was just as wasteful with two free kicks, each of which he hammered into the defensive wall.

Kernaghan's kids offered little in reply, taking some 28 minutes to get their first shot on target.

Yet when it came from Hunter, it put the holders in front in bizarre circumstances as his free kick flashed into the net.

Adam Hunter celebrates his opening goalThere seemed little danger when the award was given by referee Euan Anderson for an innocuous foul some 35 yards out in the left channel.

But Hunter's ball into the area drifted past everyone - including Celtic keeper Robbie Thomson - and bounced into the net off the far post.

With their tails up, Rangers suddenly burst into life and McAusland then Anthony Merenghi almost slotted in a second moments later from close range.

Celtic quickly settled again but despite having the better possession, it was the Murray Park side that went 2-0 up six minutes before the break.

Dylan McGeogh played a pinpoint pass through for McAusland and he and Thomson collided as they both went for it.

McAusland reacted far quicker though and got up to meet the rebound first, stroking home to give his team a good lead.

It was clear Celtic's heads had dropped and it took a good block by John Young to deny Merenghi after good work on the right wing by Steven Heatherington.

Kernaghan made a change at the interval as he replaced Robbie Crawford with Lewis McLeod but the alteration didn't break his side's momentum.

Indeed, good work by the industrious McGeogh almost led to a third but Thomson did well to hold his effort.

The midfielder came close again seconds later after decent build-up play involving Merenghi but once more he couldn't find a way past the keeper.

Adam Hunter celebrates his opening goalCeltic's best response was Patrik Twardzik's attempt through a ruck of bodies but Currie gathered well at the second attempt.

With the clock ticking down, the Parkhead side was beginning to run out of ideas and their final pass was becoming more and more wayward.

Gers, in contrast, were growing in confidence and they knocked the ball around with much more composure.

With little over quarter of an hour to go, it seemed Celtic might have a chance to get themselves back into the game when they won a free kick on the edge of the area.

But Filip Twardzik failed to put much direction on his curler and it flew straight into Currie's arms.

That chance at least gave them hope but they just couldn't find their range all night and the Czech player again missed after George looked to capitalise on Ewan McNeil's slip.

Patrik Twardzik hit the bar as Miodrag Krivokapic's side laid siege to Currie's goal in the closing stages before Curtis Jones reduced the deficit with three minutes left.

But that wasn't enough to salvage the game and Rangers hung on to ensure they have the bragging rights over their city rivals once again.
