Seems like a brilliant thing to do amongst friends.Open the FM editor through steam and add some new players in, with the specs your mates want. Set current ability somewhere between 10-100 - I put 100 on here so the players would get first team game-time quicker - and then set the potential ability of all to -10 (which means somewhere between 180-200 I think, and changes depending on how the player is dong rather than remaining fixed).Then start the game, make a manager, start unemployed, search for all the players using the search bar, subscribe and book mark them all, and then just keep pressing continue and documenting the progress.
