ClintonGrey 365
Lochgellybear.SKY pay most clubs about half a million at the start of August for tv rights for the coming year, without that most SPL clubs literally will not be able to function. If Rangers are gone, SKY can claim breach of contract and not pay these clubs that money. If the SPl clubs had a year or two to shift their business models away from needing this money for day to day operating costs they could boot Rangers with no cost to them, but as it is literally cutting off their nose to spite their face. Gers77 5
A renegotiated deal giving the SPL shitpence is what SKY would be after.Maybe so, but the mojority of people in this country probably only get Sky for the football. I'm pretty sure there are more supporters of team that aren't Rangers who would be displeased with any shitty deals and will vote with their feet. Will Rangers out the picture it may be possible for the rest to negotiate with say a Middle Eastern mob, who's packages are substantially cheaper than Sky's.Whatever the case may be, it's all speculation. Sky haven't uttered a word about the whole debacle. It's not like the SPL are their cash cow.
Blumhoilann 6,712
No sympathy for any of them. This all stems from their own anti-Rangers bigotry. They decided to jump on the haters bandwagon in the hope of forcing Rangers out of football,,all over 9million of unpaid tax/NI contributions and default on repayments of old tax debt, brought about by Murray and Whyte.No-one cares about us,why should we care about them. Canadaready 9,437
The contract would have had to include the Old Firm clause in case one club was to ever be relegated... regardless of the reason.

Drunk and disorderly. 14,488
Sky would be pretty shortsighted to pull out any deal, should Rangers be demoted, fueling the fire in the belly of the haters. The £18m tv deal could be like spare change if they all cancel their subscriptions in their droves, like many have said they would.Sky could offer the SPL a fraction of their last deal if Rangers go to D3, or they could walk away and return in 3 years.Would Sky TV subscriptions with an SPL without Rangers over the next 3 years even meet it's operating costs? How many are willing to watch a boring one horse race for 3 seasons?

Johnny Hubbard 280
The Record are reporting that a source at the heart of the secret talks between Green and SPL chairmen said: “It is not just Rangers who face oblivion. The entire future of Scottish football as we know it is at stake. This is the nature of the crisis with which we are now faced.”“The stark reality we are now facing is that if Rangers are relegated and SFL clubs then force them down into the Third Division, as has been suggested, the SPL’s remaining teams will face their own financial Armageddon.“As many as FIVE teams, possibly among them Motherwell, Dundee United and Kilmarnock could go to the wall and the beginning of the end could start as soon as August 6.“That’s the date every club receives a cheque for £645,000 which is the first tranche of next season’s TV money.”Without that cash some clubs won’t be able to pay wage bills and will then face financial meltdown.“By voting Rangers out of the SPL and forcing them into the Third Division clubs will be voting for their own demise.]“Not only would the SPL clubs lose their TV revenues, the smaller clubs would lose the £2m drip feed they receive from the SPL. That represents a huge proportion of their revenues. So they too would be voting for oblivion.”This may all be made up but if true, those fans who have delighted in saying "No" may only have 5 weeks left before the meltdown occurs.[/quoteit's the SPL clubs who'll lose out big time..........the weaker will struggle but some might think the hit would be worth it if they got more of tv and gate money...........but if it's div 3....they're all fucked
NamibianBear 1,851
Sky make billions a year, with or without Rangers in the SPL, infact without the SPL altogether.Simple economics - if Sky lose money on a part of their package, they drop that part - forget the billions they make elsewhere. They will either renoegotiate the entire deal or drop the SPL.Nice to see the other clubs actually waking up to this now, bet we in the SPL from tomorrow
Gers77 5
If Rangers choose Div 3, and all these teams go to the wall, surely this would be an ideal time to plead to the English FA to join them?If Rangers choose Div 3 and all these teams go to the wall, then surely they'll all end up in division 3, after admin, liquidation, newco, sanctions etc. They'll be debt free. Maybe a blessing in disguise for them?
Drunk and disorderly. 14,488
Sky make billions a year, with or without Rangers in the SPL, infact without the SPL altogether.Exactly. Sky don't need the SPL. It's the other way around.Last time I checked SkY weren't a registered charity. Why should they prop up the SPL?
Brackley 1,401
I smell a yes vote coming tomorrow.Get out clause for the SPL chairmen along the lines of " Whilst we really really really wanted to go along with the instructions of our fans, I'm afraid the big bad bank manager called last night to say if we vote no our debts will be called in, meaning we would be immediately placed in administration ourselves"
Gers77 5
Exactly. Sky don't need the SPL. It's the other way around.Last time I checked SkY weren't a registered charity. Why should they prop up the SPL?I think this was touched on in another thread. Maybe something to do with the 1m or so subscribers they have up here, many with an interest in the SPL, many of whom are not Rangers fans, many of whom may get rid if they pull the plug on the SPL, or try and offer a cut price deal. El Carpintero 546
Surly they will get money from a revised Sky deal? Say half of 645,000?Split 12 ways? Pennies. Not nearly as much as they will lose with a full tv deal and 5000 Rangers fans at their grounds twice a year!
AyeReadyStu 70
Sky have more power than the SFA do, whether the SFA/SPL like it or not, I've always believed Sky will have the final say in this situation, expect the SFA to bend to whatever Sky want. loyalfollower 1,543
sure as hell they must have thought about this? theres been threads about sky renegotiating for weeks on here. if us non businessmen knew it was possible then one would think the chairman of the hate mob knew the same? maybe they were blinded by hatred and couldnt see anything else.
