Edmiston Drive 3,846
HMRC Appeal StatementWRITTEN BY RANGERS FOOTBALL CLUBRANGERS Chief Executive Charles Green commented: “All Rangers fans welcomed the First Tier Tax Tribunal verdict last November and will be disappointed that HMRC have now launched an appeal against their judgment.“The ruling of the First Tier Tax Tribunal does not affect the operations and the financial position of the Club as it stands today and the appeal will have no affect on us as this is an historic case for The Rangers Football Club plc ('oldco').“As HMRC stated last June when they decided to vote against the proposed ‘oldco’ CVA, no tax liabilities relating to 'oldco' would transfer across to the new company. HMRC have also reaffirmed this position to the Club's tax advisers, Deloitte.“What the appeal does do, however, is cast a cloud of uncertainty and confusion over a situation that has already been ruled on and has taken a number of years to investigate.“There is no money to be gained by HMRC as the old company has been liquidated so you have to ask why they are pursuing the matter further when the original EBT enquiry took years to reach a conclusion?“I have written in the strongest possible terms to HMRC pointing out the futility of such an appeal.”

ForeverBlue_Since91 2,895
How many time are the taigs at HMRC allowed to appeal it? Surely they are only allowed to appeal a certain amount of times? If there is no limit then this will go on forever.
elephants stoned 2,994
Stupid, vindictive and a total waste of money but HMRC are a law unto themselves as this and previous cases have shown, forget about topshop, vodaphone, google ect lets persecute Rangers and not get any money at the end of it
jcb 1,167
The decision to appeal was always going to happen. A victory for HMRC in the Upper Tier will allow a precedent to be set which in turn will be used in future cases against EPL clubs. No big surprise given the 2-1 FTTT decision tbh.Could be years before we have a final outcome. Jules Gers 66
Surely the only gain by HMRC in turning the original verdict is to persue past owners i.e murray and whyte. It makes no sense winning a moral argument if you gain nothing financially. Bertent 2,081
Who says winning money or moral arguments is the key objective? Also why do we keep saying it sets precedents, it doesnt given each EBT scheme is set up and administered in a manner unique to each company/individual using them. This is without question an attack on the largest union organisation in our union.

EPL is a 1,000 fold bigger than the entire sfa. This is a bbc/sfa/spl/hmrc/scottish media attack on the biggest anti-independence institution in Britain. And btw - check the timing, it's no the 1st thing to be right up lord nimmos alley. Glad you have noticed it this is nothing but another attack on the Oldco, and the fact that the filth are attacking our Titles is no coinsedenceWe really really must try everything to get Rangers FC out of Scottish Football. If this is possible it is the only way we as a club and fanbase can fulfill our biggest potential. It wont stop until we are free of the rest of Scottish Football only then will we be able to move forward. Dutchy 1,200
A complete waste of time, especially as they let all the other tax doging schemes go.Then again, they did state that they would appeal and appeal. Far too many want to label this as purely vindictive, but HMRC were always going to appeal should the initial decision go their way. Arsenal settled a dispute, for far more, & with less publicity - more than 6 years ago.Don't believe the test case pish. A motherwell crook bought our club & refused to pay statutory debt. i.e; paye/ni/vat.Not one illegal or criminal act, or even one child has been harmed. And not one (no not one) reporter is reporting this.
