Just the last few days ?

Just don't understand the connection to us. Was it a Rangers fan that got attacked? was it Rangers related? I'm not trying to join the "bears den" brigade btw, I genuinely think iv missed a specific story and am just looking for someone to fill me in.

Police confirm UK-based Irish footballer at centre of nightclub assault probe

Published on 10 June 2013

An Irish footballer is being investigated over an alleged assault at a popular nightclub in Dublin.

The injured man was taken to hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning with a broken nose and teeth.

The footballer, who has not been named by police, plays with a club in the UK and has also played at international level for the Republic of Ireland.

Gardai said the attack took place at Buck Whaley's on Leeson Street.

Officers were not called to the scene at the time of the assault and the injured man only reported the incident yesterday afternoon after leaving hospital.

The alleged attack took place inside the nightclub, a Garda spokesman said.

It is understood the alleged attacker was ejected from the club.

Gardai said the alleged victim walked into Pearse Street Garda station in Dublin city centre yesterday afternoon and made a complaint against the player.

Investigating officers have not yet spoken to the footballer.

"We have taken a comprehensive statement from the victim. It is alleged that it was an unprovoked attack," a Garda source said.

"We are treating this very seriously. No grass will be allowed to grow under this one."

It is understood the two men do not know each other.

Gardai are expected to examine CCTV from the nightclub and take statements from witnesses and staff as part of the investigation.

Allow me to elaborate then.

Is this the same kind of caution the press demonstrated when they labelled us cheats without trial ?

Does this article have the same sort of tone as comparing our club to something you happily punch in the face until your hand hurt ?

Does the BBC article show the same level of inaccurate journalism which saw them compare our use of EBT's with match fixing and corruption ?

I think this posters at it there can be no reason why any sane Rangers fan would not realise the difference in reporting between us and them.

I noticed that the BBC also tucked it away in the "Europe" section. Now I'm aware that Ireland is in Europe, but had, say, Robin Van Persie been accused of similar, would that be in the "Europe" section, or the "Premier League" section?
