But the move ? which could include the sale of £700,000 signing David Templeton ? does not have the approval of boss Ally McCoist.

However, Ibrox chief executive Graham Wallace insists the club must act now to stem massive financial losses.

McCoist had hoped to be given the green light to make more signings during the January transfer window.

But the League One leaders are haemorrhaging money at an alarming rate and Wallace admits that failure to address the over-spending could see them go the way of the previous regime.

However, he has no intention of selling stars such as Lee Wallace and Jon Daly ? it’s the fringe players he wants to get rid of.

That could spell bad news for defenders Emilson Cribari, Steven Smith and Richard Foster, midfielders Kyle Hutton, Kyle McAusland and Dean Shiels, above, plus Barrie McKay.

Templeton, who signed from Hearts last year, has started just four league games this season.

He could be a target for Wallace, albeit the Gers will want to recoup what they paid for him.

Wallace said: “I am working with Ally now in terms of his view of what he needs from a footballing capability.

“We have some players not featuring as regularly as others and we will look at whether they have a long-term place here.

“But we are not in the business of going into a fire sale.”

The former chief operating officer at Manchester City agrees that the forthcoming transfer window will provide an opportunity to get rid of the dead wood.

“It may be we agree that there are a number of players we would be open to either loan out or take offers for,” said Wallace.

“We are obviously then dependent on there being a market for them and clubs being interested in engaging with us.”

The new boss is determined to be ruthless when it comes to getting value for money as he attempts to ensure the club at least breaks even from now on.

“If you look at the size of our playing squad, we have got the second most expensive wage bill in Scotland and yet we are playing in the third tier,” he said.

“Part of the challenge that I have in working with the manager is in balancing the football capability with the costs of that so we still have a winning team.”

We'll have a bastard of a time ditching some of those players, given their inflated wages and questionable performances. I still find the relative failures of Shiels and Templeton incomprehensible, but - realistically - it's probably better for all parties that they move on.

Finding buyers for Cribari, Smith and Foster will be pretty difficult. Hell, one of those sales alone would merit winning a series of The Apprentice.

But £1m a month is the expected burn rate, it's ok, it's in the IPO, it's all budgeted for, we're a big club in a small league, we need to retain the infrastructure....blah fucking blah, 12 months and £12m later.

No there's been no mis-management doh

BS should actually be a hero.
