Popular Post Virtuoso 27,180
Quote Former Rangers star Ray Wilkins to be given special Wembley tribute as Man United play Chelsea Ray's family will be in royal box for English FA Cup final with supporters honouring the No.8 in eighth minute of match. The son of Ray Wilkins said today’s English FA Cup final will be “extremely emotional” for the family as fans pay their respects to the ex-Rangers star. Ross, 36, said they have been invited to the royal box at Wembley for the match between Chelsea and Manchester United – clubs where his dad spent most of his career. Wilkins, nicknamed Butch, died after a heart attack last month aged just 61. He wore the No.8 shirt for both teams and supporters are set to sing “There’s only one Ray Wilkins” in the eighth minute. Widow Jackie, 63, will present the trophy to the winners. She will be joined at Wembley by her son and her daughter Jade. Ross said: “The FA invited us into the royal box. It is an amazing thing to do. It will be an extremely emotional day for us all. “That mum is being allowed to present the trophy is just phenomenal.” Wilkins scored and lifted the trophy in the 1983 final for United against Brighton. He also won it three times while assistant boss at Chelsea. Brilliant gesture asking his wife to present the trophy. sandyinroyalblue 16,478
The FA doesn't always get it right but they've got it spot on today in recognising Ray's contribution to football and how decent a man he was.

tannerall 25,935
Everyone says what a nice guy he was, as well as being a terrific player on the pitch. Right up there with my all time favourite players who grace our shirt. In these days of overpaid, overhyped tempetuous often bitter prima donnas, Ray stands out as a model professional along with our other Gers legends like Jardine and Hubbard.who remain class acts on and off the field. bordersbear
