Can’t wait for VAR

Recommended Posts

Not really a fan of it tbh. Never feel like the bounce of a goal is the same. Always that small chance they rule it out and you don’t get the same 0 to ecstasy that only an important football goal can give. It’s more like a penalty. You like 3/4 celebrate a penalty as you know it’s probably going to lead to a goal.

Generally felt like the refs as bad as they are have been fairly even up until I think it was last Xmas period. Where celtic started the big media campaign/pressure. And they’ve benefited since from it. The worst are the celtic sympathisers who will give us 4 penalties when we’re 3-0 up at home to try and make themselves look neutral. And then f us when it’s a game in the balance with 2 reds.

really should be going by foot position IMO.....

think the rule is that, if any part of your body that you can score a goal with is offside then that's what counts. Not sure though. Can't remember any where offside has been given for arms being in an offside position.

That’s correct

Hibs stadium doesn't have screens so they've had to stick a screen between 2 stands.

Be interesting at shiteholes like Fir Park... the screen will probably cost more than the stadium. They'll need to padlock the fucker.

Those screens have been there for over a year

Not general offsides,  but they check offside if it results in a goal......

When can VAR intervene?

Only in specific circumstances when the VAR thinks the on-field referee team has made a clear and obvious error or missed a serious incident relating to…

• Straight red cards
• Penalty area incidents
• Goals

VAR will automatically be checking these things, so players/coaches do not need to ask for an intervention. VAR will also intervene in cases of mistaken identity when the wrong player has been shown a yellow or red card.

When can VAR not intervene?

In every other circumstance. So, if the referee, for example, fails to show a yellow card (even a second yellow card), VAR cannot intervene unless he/she thinks that the yellow card should be a red card. Similarly, if a team is incorrectly awarded a corner kick and they score from it, VAR cannot intervene.

But can the ref ask for a review in a situation where VAR can't automaticaly intervene ?

If not it's not much of an "assistant"

It's there to assist in game changing incidents. Do you think if the ref is not sure if he got a throw in decision right, he should ask them to have a look?

Am in favour of var but a don't get why the ref needs to go over to the screen so often, you've got 2 refs watching the game by video, surely they can just tell him either hes got it wrong or got it right.

The running over to the screens became some sort of gimmick

Foot position would simplify the VAR calls but its far harder for a linesman to judge.

What if its on the 6 yard box and the attackers feet are 'onside' but he is leaning forward, upper body offside and scores with a header?

Theres no perfect solution. I don't care what rule they use for offside, just so long as it's enforced consistently.

Now that we have VAR I'd like to see it used every time the game is stopped for a head knock.

Defenders have now  cottoned on to dropping like a stone and holding their head when they've made an arse of it or are under severe pressure.

If VAR check shows blatant cheating then straight red card.

 Certain keepers too.

But you can't give a straight red for it ffs 😂

If there's a claim for a handball and the ref didn't get a good view, would VAR intervene ?

If not could the ref ask to look at a replay?
