Graeme Tomlinson and Norman Whiteside.

Most will know about 'The Shankill Skinhead' who had his career cut short by an ongoing knee injury. Graeme was tipped as a star by SAF but broke his leg playing on loan for Luton and was never the same player after that.

This is an interesting read and says a lot for him that he carries no obvious bitterness.

Probably to a lesser extent than some of the guys mentioned here but the USA striker Charlie Davies was in a horrific car crash (the other passenger died) just as his career was kicking off in France with Sochaux. By all accounts he was robbed of a WC 2010 place and never really hit the heights he promised to.

Similarly Stuart Holden was a player who I always thought was very effective for Bolton but spent what must have been at least 2 seasons on the sidelines after Jonny Evans injured his cruciate ligament IIRC. Again, not a world beater but a talented player. Bolton seemed to go down hill around that sort of time and Holden has hardly played football since.

Mols...although not ruined he'd have gone on to be on of the best strikers in Europe had Kahn not fucked him.

He was a shadow of the player he was before that.

Also Essien, he was brutal after his 2 knee injuries and was 25 at the time and was one of the best midfielders around.

Mols was the final piece of the Advocaat jigsaw, the cherry on top of the cake.

In his first season the Little General built a great squad and Mols came in the next season to take us to the next level.

If Mols had not got such a bad injury that squad could have done wonders in the Champions League and who knows how far we could have gone, and not just the season he got injured.

Durrant, Negri, Rosenthal andKuznetzov all suffered serious injuries and they never reached their potential with us.

Two others worth mentioning are Alan McLaren and Scott Nesbitt. McLaren was a class act and Nesbitt was developing in to a decent player but injury curtailed both their careers.

Robin Van Persie

You can argue he's had a decent career but imagine he had managed to go through whole seasons without any injuries at all? Could probably double, maybe even triple the amount of goals he's scored.

Don't think RVP counts tbh.

In his career his 'worst' season in terms of lowest appearances made was 17, and that was in his debut season. He played over 275 games for Arsenal over 8 seasons, and then played over 100 for Man Utd over 3 seasons.

That's even before considering around 100 Dutch caps with being their top scorer of all time.
