what if he was to stay fit for the remainder of the season, scoring a barrel load of goals, helping to secure the treble, would people be against him being offered a 6 month extension, with caveats inserted stating if he breaks down again then everything is over, but if he stays fit and keeps scoring, then another 6 month extension next Jan?

He's not reliable enough. If he managed a miracle few months then it simply means he will be able to leave with his head held high.

I have sympathy for him, but I suspect he'll be injured again before the end of the season unfortunately. We can't afford to have that level of wage sitting in the stand for huge chunks of the season.

Last thing we need is people getting on his back during the run in. Support him to the hilt and say goodbye in the summer.

He runs into the ground for the team even if he isn’t very good.

    Agreed on the first part.

Haven't learned anything we didn't already know about the guy across the last 2 games.

  3. I think we were a bit spooked by Benfica allowing us to have the ball more. Seemed a bit uncertain at time, too many passes going behind players. Composure really deserted us in the final third, looked quite disjointed.

Ultimately, we've been knocked out by the finest of margins, with a depleted squad. I think the fact I genuinely felt pretty confident that we'd win that match, despite the depleted squad, is a testament to the work done over the last 5-6 years in Europe and the work Clement has done.

Full focus on the treble now.

It is untouchable for England. He’s consistently great for them and Everton, and he’s the reason Everton are still a Premier League club.

I think he's ropey for Everton but have only ever seen him play very well for England, despite his wee t-rex arms.

  5. TBH, it's nothing against Butland as he's been superb for us and I would have been delighted for him if he received a call up, but I was a bit surprised there was as much noise about this happening. Pretty much because of the league we play in and the attitude towards it.

I think it evens out the fixtures? We'll have played the tarriers, Hearts and Hibs twice at home and St Mirren and Kilmarnock twice away.

Ahhh makes sense. So there won't be an extra trip to Kilmarnock, basically.

It would be lovely if Aberdeen goes down, but it is in our best interests for Hibs to finish in the top six in regards to our fixtures.

What's the impact on our fixtures if Hibs make the top 6 mate?

  8. We could see Diomande moved out wide left as he played there at times in Denmark, and Silva moved onto the right, but not sure who is available that the manager would then use in the centre of the park. The idea of Jack or Raskin coming in there is worrying.

Could also see Matondo come into the line up, though again, he hasn't played a whole lot. If Clement somehow got a tune out of him on the right wing then I think he might be a miracle worker.

Not much wriggle room. Just have to back them for the duration and see where it takes us.

As a player in high profile matches he crumbles especially in Europe:

    • own goal last Thursday he was under no pressure the ball was safe and the muppet heads the ball into an open goal
    • Europa League final he was missing from his position and they equalise and this led to extra time and penalties the rest is history

This guy has got to go

Were the other games on the road to the final a cake walk, played under minimal pressure?

Individual errors are fine to criticise, like the final or Thursday's own goal, but Goldson's done better in Europe than some of our most esteemed centre backs. (Not saying he's better than them in anyway.)

He's been at the heart of our most sustained run of positive results in Europe for decades.

Different type of pressure though playing catch up and actually competing for the title, hopefully it’s just the bump in the road that Clement alluded to.

It is, I agree, but we have to trust that this manager and group will deal with it and back them because they've barely dropped points. Even if we were to slip up again, it's still neck and neck.

How many times have we heard that this a reality check after these players fuck up though? it keeps on happening that’s the worry, hopefully it was just a bad day at the office and not something bigger ie certain players shitting the bed yet again when the pressure is on.

I don't think that's fair this season. We're just off the back of an 11 game winning run, which would have been longer had we not lost narrowly away at our toughest away game. So it doesn't really "keep happening".

We've been near flawless, which we've had to be in order to claw back a points gap that nobody expected us to.

As I said, we were always going to drop points at some point. We’ve done it and still managed to come out of the weekend in a better position than we went into it so no, I’m not annoyed.

The Motherwell result will hopefully be the reality check the players need to make sure we don’t slip up again.

This game reminded me of when we dropped points to Dundee United in early April in Walter's last season, 3-2 at Ibrox in the last minute. Result came out of nowhere, looked like it might have killed our title bid.

Honestly expecting both sides to drop points again before the end of the season but there won't be much margin for error.
