Celtic legend Chris Sutton has insisted only bullets and bomb scares robbed his beloved Hoops of the SPL title last season.

And he declared that ‘fragile’ Rangers won’t have the bottle to go the distance and retain their crown this time around.

Neil Lennon’s men currently trail the SPL champions by 10 points, although winning their game in hand would cut that gap to seven.

Sutton, however, has no fears over his old team-mate inspiring Celtic to bounce back. And, despite repeated assurances from Lennon that the campaign of death threats didn’t affect his focus during the title run-in, Sutton believes Celtic were thrown off track by those distractions.

‘I don’t know how he put up with the stuff last season — and I think that had an effect on where the title went,’ said Sutton.

‘You’d have to ask Neil. But I don’t think any of us could say it wouldn’t affect us.

‘I can honestly say that if that was me then I’d have been long gone. I don’t know anyone else who would have stayed.

‘Anyone else would have walked away from it all. It says a lot about his character. The stuff last season was ridiculous.’

Sutton is brutally dismissive of the challenge presented by Rangers, despite the title holders having cuffed Celtic 4-2 at Ibrox en route to opening up a healthy lead.

‘They will be revelling in the situation right now and, in Ally McCoist and Kenny McDowall, they have strength of character,’ conceded Sutton.

‘But I’m not sure they have the players in the dressing room who believe they can go the distance.

‘I don’t think Rangers are overly strong this season. They have had a great start but I still think they are fragile.

‘They have some good individual players. I like Nikica Jelavic and Steven Naismith, but Rangers haven’t been overly strong in the last two years.

‘You have to give them credit for winning the league and being ahead right now.

‘But I saw them against Maribor away from home — Maribor looked particularly poor, yet they still got a good result at Ibrox. That shows Rangers have frailties.

‘Their strength is to get the ball to Jelavic and Kyle Lafferty when fit and take scraps off that. I wouldn’t say they are a great team to watch.

‘In the second half against Celtic, they were physically stronger. But that’s only one half of one game.’

Despite Celtic’s stuttering start to the season, the Englishman believed it was far to soon to even contemplate the prospect of Lennon vacating the Parkhead hotseat.

Lennon claimed after last Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle that ‘if results are not better soon, then I will have to look at my own position’.

But Sutton insisted there was no doubt in his mind that his former team-mate is the right man for the job and capable of hauling Celtic back into title contention.

‘Neil is his own man. The nature of the job is if results aren’t going particularly well, especially at a club like Celtic, then things do change,’ Sutton said.

‘But I think it is very early days to expect talk of Neil leaving.

‘There is a 10-point gap at the moment, but it’s bridgeable. There are 30-odd games left and Celtic have a few things in their favour.

‘They are due major players back from injury. They are missing last season’s Player of the Year Emilio Izaguirre, their captain Scott Brown and Beram Kayal — people who have a big influence.

‘A couple of quick wins for Celtic, plus a slip-up from Rangers, and it will all turn again.

‘Neil has the strength of character to do that and he is certainly the man for the job.

‘I know what Neil was like as a player. He expected the highest standards then and he will do now as a manager.

‘Neil is doing his job. He will get the players fired up. The players need to really get a grip and work it out between themselves.’

I'll keep this article in mind for May, as should the squad. How exactly can Taigs sending parcel bombs to their own manager overlap tactical decisions on the field of play, Chris ? Again, another backward theory as to how a Rangers team in such a financial plight can overcome not once, not twice but three times.... In a row. It makes a good reading as to how good always succeeds over evil.

In all honesty I'd have to say that the 'Hate Campaign', and if you're going to be honest you'd better include the 'Hate' coming from the Celtic Camp was the main reason why Celtic were in the running until the death. They pumped themselves up so hard, tried to convince themselves they were winning a great victory in matters which were totally not to do with football, nobody knew what the fuck they were on!. It's all very well to talk about Death Threats and the John Wilson thing but lets not forget Celtic and Lennon came out swinging at the SFA and the bullshit with Diouf was fucking horrible.

Sutton is a total bell end.We have about 15 players in squad who have been over the course and waon the league.

He was also on Real Radio 2night saying his brother is unhappy at not getting a game at Hearts, well he probably will never get in the team now that his arsehole of a brother has made it clear 2 everyone,he is unhappy.

You would think the taigs would learn to shut up as it only motivates us even more

GIRFUY sutton HERE WE GO,4 IN A ROW :uk:
