Bothwellbear 1,392
Rangers midfielder Ian Black: I want to earn a new deal and play in the top flight again 15 Feb 2014 08:53 BLACK admits he's desperate to help Rangers get back to the top tier of Scottish football and continue his career at the club in the Premiership.Jeff Holmes Ian Black IAN BLACK was the first high-profile signing after Rangers’ demotion to the bottom tier of Scottish football. The midfielder admits he’s desperate for a new contract to see the job through and help the club start challenging in the Premiership.Black’s current deal expires at the end of next season – just when he hopes Rangers have clinched their return to the top flight after a three-year exile. He said: “My aim coming here was to help the club get back up.“It would be massive for me, being the first signing, to be part of eventually playing in the Premiership and to lift that title one day.“I just hope I can play well and get a new deal to play in the top league with a club this size.“They always say if you work hard they’ll speak to you. So it’s up to me to do well.“I’m enjoying myself. I’m adding silverware to my CV and I’m enjoying playing in front of 40,000 every week. I love it.”Black is looking forward to maintaining his good form in today’s clash against Ayr at Somerset Park.He said: “My form has been better this season, especially looking back to last year when I came in and wasn’t at the same level as boys who had had a good pre-season. I still feel I can improve in areas and I’m working hard to do that.“The manager has been happy enough to play me every week so I’ve been doing something right.“I just need to work hard, keep my head down and try earn myself a new contract.”While Rangers are odds-on to win League One and the Ramsdens Cup it’s the Scottish Cup run that’s caught their fans’ imagination. They are aiming to become the first third-tier team in history to win the trophy.Black added: “We need to win the tie at home and if we draw a Premiership team it’s up to us to show there’s not a massive step between the leagues.”
1st_Jan_1994 4,868
Provided he keeps this seasons form up then sure deal him in but I still think we need more players on a par with Law, Moshni and Wallace to win any top flight title
siddiqi_drinker 14,635
Still think Black shows more when he and Temps are in the same team. But the fukkin moustache needs to go LOL
scarkev 3,540
I don't rate black albeit I will concede he has improved this year. I don't think he is going to be of the required standard to help us win the top flight but he can certainly help us get there but I'm not sure is give him an additional year beyond next. The Godfather 72,787
Punt when we get back, he won't be part of any title winning side in the top tier
geronimoo 1,491
Was a really good player before he came to us, I like Black a lot and really want him to go on and become better than the player he was, I stil believe as we move up the leagues he will improve. simplythebest 11,453
He'll be pushing 30 when we're back in the top flight and has struggled in these part time divisions quite a lot, just can't see it
legalbeagle 3,734
Good attitude to take though, and if it spurs him on next season then all the better.I tend to think he is the sort of player we will need to still have around the first team when we get back up. thehost 11,061
We shall see how he fairs against the banjo twins, should we get drawn against the sheep.IMO we can get far, far better for 8-10k per week.
Alec87 331
Punt when we get back, he won't be part of any title winning side in the top tierI hope your right. Unfortunately I think he will get another deal. You can bet on that.
Dutchy 1,200
All players blow hot and cold, Black is no different. I think we should keep him, even if it's just for the amount of loyalty he's shown more than all the rats that ran out when we needed them most. loyalfollower 1,543
Was one of his biggest critics last year but this season he has performed well for large parts. Keep it up and deal him in
Ivybank 4,637
No no and thrice no,as one manager recently said.he slows the tempo of the game.get rid at the end of the season get some moneyFor him

BlueboyG 5,323
I hope he is offered a deal, a player who is always available to take a pass and some of his through balls to Wallace are excellent, one of the most unappreciated players at Ibrox in my opinion, if you watch him for five mins and not the game you will see what I mean , a players player
BlackyBear 16
I would let him go at the end of his contract. He's done a job, but 1st choice CM's should be Law and MacLeod. And we've still got Peralta who hasn't had a chance in his position of CM.
legalbeagle 3,734
Like him or not I don't think him wanting to play for a new deal is a bad thing for the club. Telling him now he isn't going to get one would be though.
Shearer 124
Provided we don't pay him over the odds, it makes sense to keep him for 2 more years.
Dutchy 1,200
Alec87: I know he signed after they all left, but he's still shown more 'grit' than any of the 'leavers'. There's definitely a couple of more years to be had from him and his attitude.
Straight-Edge-Loyal 6,698
I like him think hes a good player and since hes joined he has spoken well of us if he keeps up his form id give him a new deal
allgers 735
Black has his moments, but it's infuriating when he slows down play in midfield when the rest of the team is in full attack mode, can he get better, I think so, does he deserve another contract, I think that needs to be decide next year, good motivation playing for a contract, if you need motivation that is. gogzy 31,195
the attitude to have. Work hard and earn your place, can't argue with that.
Poetry_In_Blue 1,043
Can't argue with the improvement he has made, shows the difference a pre-season and starting injury free does for a player both in confidence and ability. I think he will deserve an extended contract, call me a sentimental old fool but I would like to see him to be part of the team that lifts the top flight trophy when we get back to the top. Just hope he doesn't put a bet on it!!!!!
TravelingWilBEARy 4,319
Was disappointed when we signed him but that is the correct attitude to have. Good on him.
