Would be financially suicide IMO

Shipbuilding is a dead trade in this country, BAE only survive due to the government contracts.

We don't only do contracts for our government, we also do bespoke contracts for other nations; in the last 10 years we have built ships for Dubai, Trinidad & Tobago, Malaysia and have done refit work for Type 23s for the Romanians.

blazzing-saddles-gibberish-o.gif

Now who can argue with that? I think we're all indebted to Gabby Johnson for clearly stating what needed to be said. I'm particulary glad that these lovely children were here today to hear that speech. Not only was it authentic frontier gibberish, it expressed a courage little seen in this day and age.

You idiots, McGills buses need more routes into Glasgow from Port Glasgow/Greenock ..... FLOATING BUSES, it's so fuckin' obvious.

Ferguson will adapt the fleet and make them amphibious, the new company motto will be ... "By road or by by river, we will deliver (the passengers .. to the ... err ... Glasgow, aye!)

If independence were to come about (touch wood, it doesn't) we would have to rely on foreign orders on our books, it would mean scaling back but I believe we would survive in a smaller capacity. Building warships is far more specialised than commercial build. As such, skillbase is a major factor in the tender process for defence contracts.

And this is where we are with independence. Scotland separates itself from the UK and depends on foreign investment, to build ships for foreign nations!

If those foreign nations decide that they will not order ships from Scotland, goodnight.

Put the lights out!

Edit to add......

Fucking BEARS DEN?

The non-British naval shipbuilding work uses Admiralty designs and specifications. Even allowing for the use of these designs, there is no way that there would be enough work to keep the Glasgow yards open. With modern shipbuilding modular construction, the ships can be built just about anywhere. Portsmouth or Belfast or Plymouth for a start. BAe will not keep the yards going up here if the majority of their work is in the rest of the UK. People underestimate the current level of goodwill which will disappear if Scotland goes independent. If anyone thinks that the UK government will let ships be built outwith the UK then they are deluding themselves. The outcry would ensure that work leaves Scotland and who could blame them. The anti-English campaign would rebound on the SNP and its followers.

Anyway, Fergusons used to be a good little company and I hope that the Easdales can help them out in some way. If this doesn't make people sit up and think about staying in the UK then nothing will.

Have the UoF complained yet?

Its all a plan to sell off the shipyards assets according to the Union of Shipbuilders and the Sons of John Brown. (No, not that one)

The UOS and the SOJB claim the brothers are really BAE supporters and demand security over the big crane and the factory dug.

Failing that they will never set foot on a ship til they do.

UOS spokesperson, Craig Houston, said "I can't see any reason they won't give us the assets they just paid for. Clearly they are up to something. We are urging the workers to boycott the factory until they do. I have heard rumours of a south African based zillionaire who is going round telling folk he wants to use the workers redundancy cash to buy the yard which will make us bigger than BAE.

That sounds a great deal and he sounds like the man for the job.

I'm sure one the strike bites and it looks like we're doomed he will ride to the rescue. My associate known only as John Brown's Cat says it's only a matter of time as the tide is coming in.

I see Craig Houston is raging about this on his SOS page, he's got a photo up with the Easdales and Toxic Jack Irvine at some meeting in the yard, wouldn't be surprised if he was down there and snapped the photo himself like he did from behind billboards at Ibrox of ST queues

i can already see their takeover plans

firstly they claim that the current owners are spivs and that they have robbed the shipyard of a fortune

then they get a few of the workers to shout loudest about said spivvery and that the current owners must go

after that the easdales will try and convince any prospective business to not give the shipyard the business

then after that the easdales will meet the current owners to discuss how the shipyard is going to operate in the near future

finally the easdales will demand that the shipyard owners sign over their assets eg the shipyard and all related machinery

All the while the easdales wont actually put a single penny into the company

sounds about right
