The judge is now referring to the grooming count.

He says Adam Johnson sent "800 messages in three months".

He adds: "Your messages to the victim were quite clear, you asked to meet in a secluded place, told her to delete your messages."

Footballer Adam Johnson groomed a schoolgirl for sexual activity, the judge says.

Judge Jonathan Rose, sentencing, said the winger offered a signed shirt to the girl and met her while it was dark in a bid to "gain her confidence".

He said: "You were testing the waters, to see how far you could go ... grooming her for sexual activity."

The judge tells Adam Johnson: "You then researched the age of consent."

He adds: "You were having multiple sexual partners.

"You viewed the victim as just another female to get with, you ignored the fact she was 15."

Adam Johnson "thought he could get away with" sexual activity and grooming a schoolgirl and then lied, the judge says.

Judge Jonathan Rose tells him that after his arrest: "You lied, you had every opportunity to enter guilty pleas but chose not to.

"The consequences of that, your victim was called a liar, by peers, by football fans."

Adam Johnson's crimes were the most serious of their type, the judge says.

Judge Jonathan Rose says his offences were category 1A, the most serious.

He says "there is an abuse of trust, you are trusted by young fans to behave properly".

We're getting close to sentence.

Adam Johnson's "continual denials" left his victim "scared, intimidated and called a liar", the judge says.

He tells the former Sunderland player that she has "suffered threats and thousands of abusive remarks" on social media.

He adds that the schoolgirl "now suffers night terrors" and cannot sleep.

Adam Johnson was only able to commit his child sex offences because he was "a respected Sunderland footballer", the judge says.

He tells him he "had a gift of football" but after joining Manchester City he embarked on a compulsive drive for sex.

That left his victim suffering from "sadness, anger, fear, confusion, night terrors, weight loss and nausea".

No it's not OTT, rapists getting less is what's the disgrace.

Yes it is OTT

Not even a crime in most of Europe as I have pointed out before

Real paedophiles getting lesser sentences every week for far worse crimes

Sentenced for who he is rather than what he done

"real" paedophiles?  Sorry is grooming a 15 year old lassie not "real" enough for you?

He got the sentence he deserves.
