Holding Midfielder Is Badly Needed.

Any idea how far away Eustace is from fitness?

Is this a done deal when he's fit? You would think we've agreed in principle wages etc

He is 36, injury prone and hasn't played a match in 9 months. I don't think we need him for this League but doubt he would help or be around next season.

Need another younger option

OMFG another thread on who we need, lads and lasses WE are rebuilding ffs, 3 transfer windows required MAGIC said and here we are one defeat and its all doom and gloom. Last night games told us nothing but with Sundays games at wee tims ground will show us the steel this team has. I am more than confident Magic will add quality in the next transfer window and the one after that. We just need to get use to the fact teams will park the bus now and learn how to deal with it its simple as that.

what is this defensive midfielder shite,

st johnstones first was down the wing, cut back, flick and tav sleeping to allow the man in front of hijm

their 2nd was a well worked corner that we slept for

and their 3rd was a by 50 yard punt that im convinced kiernan is STILL turning around for at this moment

we dont badly need a midfield enforcer, not now anyway, we need quicker centre halves or to simply sit deeper, and badly need waghorn back to centre forward and ditch miller

Agreed, Played far to high up the park, especially as Wallace and Tav are essentially wingers!

Last time I checked there were 90+ mins in a match, so why do we need to be 2 or 3 up by half time!

If we had kept it tight at the back at least till the second half, we had the beating of them, with 20+ mins to go they were ran ragged!

Good luck to him adding quality with no money to spend

Who said Halliday IS a holding midfielder? He played on the wing for Bradford ffs. The guy loves playing for Rangers and would play anywhere for us. Is it his fault he isn't a holding mid? No.

This.

Need to get Eustace fit and in the side for future cup games against SPL opposition.

Why are people clinging on to eustace? Has anyone actually seen him play I doubt it.

On paper he is a 35yr old who has a fucked knee. Haliday was not at fault for any of the goals last night and has performed to an acceptable standard in the league.

I have said before we need someone else in there next year and is one of 5/6 positions that needs strengthening. However that should be done in the summer and then holiday should be used as a strong squad player

WTF Why is he being played there then and is there nobody else that normally plays there?

Tonight didn't really tell us anything we didn't already know.

However.... we are 3mths into a massive rebuilding project, and doing it on a shoestring....

Why are we on a Shoe-String? Time DK and the board told us the plans for the future. Is it all down to the fans to fund the club, if so why do we need DK etc on our board. There's plenty of Gers men who can do that job who are living here and have hand on the pulse, he is never here. We need someone who will live eat and sleep Rangers FC someone who is Gers 24/7 at the helm, steering the club.

Need another younger option

He's not injury prone in the slightest, in fact he's went through almost his entire career without any serious injuries until earlier this year. You should check your facts before posting rubbish. (tu)

He's exactly the type of player we need.

I believe the plan is to offer him a deal until the end of next season so he would likely be around then.

Rubbish??? I think you are the one talking shit.

Coventry - On 8 September 2001, Eustace was struck down with a knee injury during Coventry's league defeat to Grimsby which kept him sidelined for 7 months.

Stoke - Eustace suffered a knee injury in only his 8th appearance of the season. It later became clear that Eustace's injury would keep him out for at least the rest of the season.[7] He missed the rest of the 2004–05 season and all of the 2005–06 season because of the injury. However, Eustace signed a 1-year contract extension at the beginning of the season, which lasted until the end of the 2006–07 season.

Watford - Only 5 appearances in 2012-2013 (injury?)

Derby - He picked up a serious knee cartilage injury against Ipswich Town in a 1–0 victory on 10 January 2015...The injury required an operation and ruled him out for the remainder of the season

So, he went through his entire career without any serious injuries until earlier this year??? Really?

There must be loads of players who are late 20s early 30s that have the experience and discipline for that role and who could come in and give us a few years.

Rather than a guy in his mid 30s just back from a serious injury and going to take months to get up to speed.

Tonight didn't really tell us anything we didn't already know.

However.... we are 3mths into a massive rebuilding project, and doing it on a shoestring. It's also worth remembering that Rangers current reputation to the wider world isn't exactly favourable, and we are playing in the Scottish Championship thus we are not always seen as a particularly attractive option to players.

We already know we are maybe a striker (or two) short. We know our midfield is a bit lightweight. We know Halliday isn't a holding player. We know our defence isn't amazing. We know we are maybe 5-6 starting XI players short of being good enough to win the SPFL.

However, there is absolutely no point in signing player for the sake of signing them because we think we need them. Essentially we'd be signing them to try and win cups (the leagues a given), that realistically we'd be needing a fair slice of luck to win this year given where we've been. Cups that even when we were a good team, we only won about 30% of the time!.

We tried that approach, and look where it got us. The reality is..... the type and class of player we need to patch the holes we have in our team is currently very hard to attract to Rangers.

The team just now is plenty good enough to cruise the Championship, with the odd hiccup along the way. This is year 1 of a long term project, and simply the goal this year is to lay down a foundation whilst winning the Championship and securing promotion. We are on course to meet both of those goals. Patience is needed!

Exactly this m8, calm down anyone that thinks otherwise. Very happy with progress and let's get league won this year first before we get to excited. However a run in Scottish cup would be nice....
