Newsnow eh...

*Nevermind I'm a fucking idiot*

RANGERS have opened talks with Jason Holt, Andy Halliday and Barrie McKay in a bid to tie the star trio down on improved Ibrox deals.

Light Blues boss Mark Warburton wants to reward the trio for their performances this season in helping the club to the top top of the Championship.

Gers were also given a boost after Gedion Zelalem signed an extension to his loan deal which will see the Arsenal kid stay in Glasgow until the end of the season.

And it came on the day Accrington Stanley duo Josh Windass and Matt Crookstravelled north for medicals at Murray Park ahead of a likely summer move.

But while Warburton is continuing his search for new faces in this month’s transfer window he wants to secure the futures of current key men.

And after playing vital roles this season Holt, Halliday and McKay have all been identified by Warburton as a trio he wants for life in the Scottish Premiership if they win promotion this season.

Former Hearts man Holt in particular has earned rave reviews for his displays with the free transfer bagging nine goals and his current contract runs until 2018.

Fellow midfielder Andy Halliday signed a two-year contract when he joined his boyhood heroes after moving on from English side Bradford City.

And McKay has flourished since the arrival of Warburton and assistant manager Davie Weir after it looked like his Gers career was faltering.

The 21-year-old signed a five-year deal in September 2012 but was loaned out out to Morton and Raith Rovers in successive seasons.

He didn’t feature in the play-offs under Stuart McCall when he returned from Stark’s Park but has been an integral part of Warburton’s side.

Meanwhile, USA youth international Zelalem will remain in Scotland for the second half of the season on loan from the Gunners.

The 18-year-old has featured 15 times for the Light Blues and returned as a substitute in last week’s 6-0 drubbing of Dumbarton after missing the previous two games with injury.

More interesting is those that are not mentioned.

Possibly, but I'm not sure about that.

Those who are out of contract at the end of this season maybe haven't made a convincing argument one way or the other yet and I suspect the other summer signings were signed on better wages than Holt, Halliday and McKay. McKay's last deal was signed 3 years ago and Halliday and Holt were both between clubs and signed after trials. I imagine they have been getting paid peanuts up until now.

I reckon this might mean we've dropped our interest in Govou. Disappointed, but if Warbs thinks it's the right call then I trust him

This site would disappear in a puff of smoke if we ever gave up our interest in Govou. We've been waiting since 2005 ffs.

Would rather let the players concentrate on winning this league and tell them we will talk in the summer about better deals.

I dont think this announcement is anything to do with deals - its a "hands off" to the market during a transfer window where we dont want to loose these guys.

Surely your not saying we are skint.

If somebody makes a crazy offer then I would think the club is obligated to look at the financial side and sell them.

of course I am not saying we are skint - neither are we swimming in money. I am saying that we are a selling club and if a decent offer came in it could turn these guys heads or we may decide to take the money. Given the length of contract these guys are currently on, I dont think this announcement is anything to do with their contracts per se, its more letting the market know we value them.

Excellent statement of intent from Warburton.

Not only says hands off to possible suitors but a huge boost to the players confidence. Warburton clearly knows how to man manage and bring the best out of players and if he keeps things like this up the morale and harmony of the team is only going to grow.
