A Rangers Poem

Recommended Posts

I posted on here a couple of weeks ago an extract from a poem that a friend of my father penned back in the 70's - he was sadly lost to us by way of an accident at his work but the poem takes pride of place on the wall of our family home. I was asked by a few if i could post it in its entirity - so here it is:

As much a part of Glasgow,

As the famous River Clyde,

Stands an Istitution,

Built on Loyalty, Dignity and Pride,

The red brick facade,

Flanked by imposing gates,

Beyond lies the field of dreams,

Where immortality awaits,

The masses come from near and far,

Full of hope and loud of voice,

Singing songs of who they are,

Born that way - not just through choice,

In these times of trouble,

"We will fight til the day is won"

The Union Jack a symbol of our struggle,

And its colours will never run,

Like my fathers before me,

Brethren stand side by side,

We are the Institution,

Built on Loyalty, Dignity and Pride,

They may demand our silence,

We will sing louder than before,

They may ban our Flag,

We will wave them higher and make more,

From the shipyard gates to the highest steeple,

As God is my witness,

We are Rangers....

We ARE the People

get a tune to that and we have a new anthem,

brilliant!

Aye, but if a tune can't be found, how about it being read out with plenty volume, maybe read by former great players. Ideally it could replace that embarassment Andy Cameron. Or it could be read in the minute up to kick-off.

Just a thought.

Cracking idea, would leave to see something like this being belted out at home games.

Thats fantatastic JR you must be very proud. Funny how its probably more appropriate for todays current climate than when it was penned over 30 years ago.

Thats what makes it so poignant - it was written when the attendances were high but the trophy count low. Its as apt now as it ever was then

I have said that about the Mr Struth quote that has been posted many times on here, these two in the run up to kick off would be awesome!
