Few bits from Liverpool Echo:

Ben Woodburn led the way as Liverpool Under-23s ran riot in a friendly against Rangers before being pegged back late on.

The Wales international scored twice with Rafa Camacho and Curtis Jones also on target at Ibrox.

Liverpool led 4-0 midway through the second half before Gerrard's raft of changes helped the Scottish Premiership outfit launch a late fightback. Rangers ended up salvaging a 4-4 draw courtesy of a last-minute equaliser.

Liverpool Under-23s team v Rangers: Atherton; Whelan, Masterson, Gallacher, Johnston; Coyle, Randall, Christie-Davis; Jones, Camacho, Woodburn

So it seems we made the changes, not them, and the Rangers kids did what our senior pros couldn't.

Very telling.

He subbed 4 of them in the second half to change the game and brought on 4 players all of which were 17 and 18 years old to save it.

It was an embarrassment no matter how you look at it. If anyone at that club is treating a training exercise against a club like Liverpool as a Sunday kick about then they'd be best fucking off now

Right. But we don’t know which four players were taken off. We don’t know how the remaining players changed their attitude. We don’t know how well the 4 additional players played.

My main point was we don’t know anything and I find it strange that we release a video of our manager talking about embarrassing and fantastic yet so little detail is known. Why bother with the interview at all if we aren’t going to get simple details of who was subbed and what changed.

Just say nothing and keep it behind closed doors.

it was the national team coach who said it

Wrong. The national team coach said he could get a better team than Rangers; a journalist said he would become a £20million player in a couple of years.

Just listening to the heart and hand podcast's daily update.  Apparently Gerrard told reporters at today's meeting with the press (not the public one that gets uploaded to youtube) that it was Lafferty, Grezda and Barisic that were taken off at half time of the bounce game, and gave the impression that they're pretty much finished here.

I was going to mention in match thread a feeling one of the guilty ones could have been Lafferty, and how he could miss out tomorrow even if Defoe was also out, but didnt as I actually thought Morelos had been our only striker in the friendly.

Cant believe how badly he continues to fuck up his 2nd chance here if there's truth in this, which is entirely probable.

When I seen the team that started the game and Gerrard's reaction to it, the first 2 names I suspected were Lafferty and Barisic.

This season alone Lafferty has had chance after chance to knuckle down and prove his worth, but just can't seem to shake the childishness out of himself.  This is after all the grovelling he done when he returned saying he was desperate for another chance.

Below text in italics is extracted from the Rangers report of SG's press conference earlier today (bits in bold by me):   Gerrard is clearly still in a critical mood about the bounce game.   He must surely know that eventually the names of those who were the biggest contributors to the embarrassment will be leaked (or accusations simply invented as the case might yet be).  To be shown up by 'babies' as Gerrard puts it is quite a put down and the players affected will presumably be well aware of the Manager's views.

The episode leaves the door wide open for conclusions to be reached that some players will have signalled their complete inability or unwillingness to respond to the managerial helm - this after nearly a full season with Gerrard as manager.   That alone would be telling.     Thing is though, is their embarrassment something each of them can recover from and put right in the eyes of the manager or they effectively gone but its just that the reality of going through the exit door has yet to take place.

He continued: “Certain individuals’ performance, effort, commitment and desire was embarrassing for this football club.

“A few within that did quite well. The idea of the game was for many reasons – for fitness as we use these bounce games to top people up with game-time and minutes – and there was also the fact we wanted to give Graham Dorrans some time and a good test for his knee coming back from injury.

“Also, we wanted to test some young players in and around our first-team players, so for us, it was a very important game. We wanted to get a lot out of it, but unfortunately, we got very little out of the first half and it wasn’t until we introduced four babies really who are 17 or 18 where there was a massive improvement and a massive gulf in desire, commitment and effort and just wanting to play football."

Four lads saying Grezda, Coulibaly at Laverty off at HT. Dorrans & Halliday at 60min.

Coulibaly and Lafferty are free to go. Never wanted Lafferty back and Coulibaly is a loan deal anyway.

Gutted that Grezda hasn’t taken his chance.

Hope it’s true that Barisic isn’t on the list because I believe there is a top notch player in there somewhere.
