SPFL ask UEFA for celtic title guidance as European qualifiers set to be overhauled due to coronavirus crisis
The European governing body is coming to terms with the fact football could be shut down long-term. UEFA is coming under mounting pressure to order the abandonment all domestic football after finally being forced to pull the plug on ‘fantasy’ plans to complete the Champions League and Europa League before the end of June. Record Sport has learned the game’s authorities in Britain are set to demand greater clarity from Europe’s governing body after a series of urgent cross border discussions over the huge impact of the deepening coronavirus crisis. The move comes after UEFA bosses indefinitely postponed the finals of their two flagship club tournaments which had been unrealistically rescheduled by just one month despite an ongoing global battle against the killer pandemic.

The U-turn announcement has been welcomed as a sign that UEFA may at last be coming to terms with the prospect that the game could have to be closed down for more than four months until the spread of the contagion has been brought under control. We can reveal talks have begun behind the scenes about condensing the qualifying rounds for next season’s European competitions with a potential plan to scrap two-legged ties and settle them in one off matches instead. And now the game’s leaders in the UK are calling for clear instructions over how to begin planning ahead for those qualifiers in the event that current domestic campaign cannot be re-started over the summer.

This could force the hand of the SPFL and the English Premier League into declaring current league leaders celtic and Liverpool as champions even though their respective campaigns have still to be completed. A source close to the discussions told Record Sport : “Football has to face up to reality and quickly. “The Champions League and the Europa League generate the vast majority of UEFA’s revenues. “If next year’s competitions are to take place in line with the current timetable for 2020/21, then UEFA need to issue an edict to the 55 national associations, requesting that they inform them who their respective champions are by the 30th of June at the latest. “For that to happen, the leagues clearly require to be completed or curtailed by then - or else national associations will have to nominate their European clubs with the possibility that different clubs will finish in the qualification positions!

“Given the increasing crackdown on movements by Governments throughout Europe, and when you consider that in Spain and Italy alone you have already had almost 9,000 deaths, it seems unlikely that all the remaining European games this season will be able to be played by 30 June. “The death tolls are only going in one direction – and very, very rapidly. At times like these football needs to hold onto a sense of perspective. Hopefully UEFA takes a stance and fast.” With the pressure growing on UEFA to take a lead president Aleksander Ceferin is heading up a working group which yesterday admitted defeat on plans to complete the Champions League and Europa League over April, May and June. Ceferin had originally pushed the date of the Champions League final in Istanbul back to June 27 from May 30. He has also hoped to move the Europa League final in Gdansk from May 27 to June 24. Those plans were met with disbelief across the continent and especially here in Scotland where the SPFL and SFA are already braced for football to be locked down until August at the earliest.  https://www.BOYCOTT THIS LINK/sport/football/football-news/spfl-ask-uefa-celtic-title-21748780

The competition should be made void allowing for clubs to activate their insurance. Competition money can then be pooled into a fund to help all 42 club, should their insurance not cover it. As can be seen in this story about Elgin City who are trying to save their 127 history from oblivion.  celtic are being very selfish towards the other 41 clubs and their players by keeping on with this title claim. I think FIFA needs to step in and make the call.

Elgin City take drastic action to save 127-year history from oblivion
The club could go under if they don't cut costs dramatically in the midst of the shutdown. Elgin City have asked all their players and staff to take massive 67 per cent cuts in a bid to save the club. The Scottish League Two promotion pushers were in a decent financial position going into the COVID-19 shutdown but unless their employees agree to take the massive drops then they could struggle to get to the end of the season. PFA (Scotland) are in talks with the Moray club, who like most sides have been hit hard by the coronavirus shutdown, to see if an agreement can be reached.

Elgin City chairman Graham Tatters said: “Believe you me this 67 per cent cut has not been put in place lightly! “It is on-going. “The full wages will be paid today and then we hope to find a way forward after that. “There are a lot of negotiations to be done. “The players have been fantastic but their concern is that they have contracts with the club and they want clearance from the PFA (Scotland) before they will commit to what we are asking them to do, to make sure there are not any future ramifications.” Tatters has admitted it is a desperate move but one that has to be made to protect their 127 year history.

He confirmed:  “We sat for three hours on Monday where we could save money and where we could go. “It is all the staff who have been asked to take that cut and not just the playing staff.“It is the only way we can guarantee to have a football club in three or four months is to do this." Tatter also claimed that Elgin’s finances had been as good as they had every been and they were looking to increase manager Gavin Price’s budget before the enforced shutdown. Tatter insisted: “It is not a nightmare it is catastrophic! “If things don’t get better then there is a concern whether the club survives.  “We are hoping everything will be okay but we certainly need some revenue. “We are working hard to bring money in.

“We are sitting quite well off and well above budget. “We have had a really good year and had controlled the budget. “We were getting good crowds and going for the play-offs and to the point where we were looking to increase the manager’s budget next season. “Now this is a disaster.”  Tatters has warned that other clubs at his level will make such slashing cuts with the financial outlook for the future looking bleak. He said: “I am on a League Two chairman’s group chat where we have been discussing things going forward and I judging by other comments other clubs are going to be in the same boat over the next few weeks or months.  “The worst thing is that is one thing not getting revenues in, another dropping wages by 67 per cent but a major problem is next season’s revenues. “We have loads of advertising revenues and how many of these companies will be able to renew that next season? “All these companies will be in trouble and who knows if we will be able to get the same support?”  https://www.BOYCOTT THIS LINK/sport/football/football-news/elgin-city-take-drastic-action-21748826

So the SPFL are asking for guidance on what to do.

Seen it mentioned by a poster on here the rules state that celtic will be handed the title.

So why are they asking for guidance?

Almost like the rule doesn’t state what was being claimed. 😳

I’m sure people would give celtic the title 50 times over if it bought back their parents or grandparents who had died during this pandemic.

Aye its just becoming tedious tbh, I can't believe this is up there in people's priorities.

We know these fenian bastards would take it but that shows them up for what they are.

They don’t need to be declared champions do they ?  how many teams in the CL are actually champions ? for me it’s not about CL places  it’s about titles, they should not be awarded the title as champions and the record book should reflect that.

They don't, no. There's no requirement to be champions to play in the CL.

They are the only club to have publicly said they want to be handed a title they haven’t won.

A fucking shower of child abusing scum. Nothing is below them.

There will be no further football played this season.

Declaring the season null and void allows for prize money to be shared out. This money should be equally distributed among all clubs. Many are currently struggling and require an immediate influx of funds.

When it becomes possible to restart it is just a case of lets go again from where we were last June/July.

tarriers won't like this solution but if the SPFL asked premier league clubs to vote on it I suspect the result would be 11-1. They would still keep their CL spot.

The problem being mate certain clubs in the SPFL Prem don’t want to share the monies equally. They want the bigger share they are due.

Also certain people in the media will never push this idea, they will continue to push the narrative to get their team a false championship.

You will never see a story in any paper mention sharing monies equally.
