Halliday on laying the marker in the derby

The versatile Rangers star won a tackle he had no real right to against Olivier Ntcham in the first minute of the win at Ibrox on December 29 and screamed in the Frenchman's face as they got back to their feet.

It fired the Ibrox support up even more than they already were and set the tone for a game in which Rangers dominated their rivals.

Halliday was also seen getting in the face of Mikael Lustig after an aerial challenge and told RangersTV: "You've got to set the tone in a derby and it's as simple as that

"I said to the boys before the game if someone get the chance to leave a marker on then do it and I was the lucky one that got a chance."

The 27-year-old was on a flight to Dubai for a short holiday after the game but admits he wishes he booked his travel for a day later

The boyhood Rangers fan was named man of the match and says he wanted to be celebrating with his fellow supporters in pubs on Paisley Road West.

He added: "I got straight on a plane after the Old Firm; it has been such a long season in a short space of time so it was good that the gaffer gave the boys a bit of time to recoup

I flew a couple of hours after the game but I celebrated on the plane, don’t worry about that. I actually said to my girlfriend if there was a possibility to get a flight the next day I was heading down Paisley Road West for the night!

“The feeling at the final whistle was sheer ecstasy, these couple of players who have been here for the last few years have been through some difficult times but we have stood up to it and come back stronger.

“No more than the fans, they have gone through hell and back but they have followed their club all the way through so it was important to get that victory for them and you can see on the streets of Glasgow they certainly enjoyed it.

I get what he's saying, especially as a fan himself, but players celebrating like us is for when the league is won, not a game.

An extra wee incentive given to the scum if it was needed. And he'd best look out for himself next game as he's made himself a target.

Would really like our club to play down our chances of winning the league and put all the pressure on the bottling scum.

Obviously Gerrard gave the team that same talk before the game. I very much doubt either Pedro or Warburton would give the same authorisation. Every old firm game needs a marker being set and whoever sets it has the wind in their sails straight away.

Regardless of what people on here say about Halliday before it's good to see how much he's changed and starting to be the heartbeat of the squad.
