I'm not defending GvB but what do you expect him to say?  If he says the squad is shite then that'll really boost their confidence.  As someone who managed a team(not football) one of the main objectives is to keep them motivated and bollockings were done in private not publicly, it's about man management.

we are shite, we've been shite for a while (with a few decent results in that time frame - mainly in Europe) we have some players who have overstayed and underperformed constantly. we have a manager that is as passive as they come, who cannot fathom that domestic and european football are two totally different things. 
it won't get any better until there are serious changes, boardroom, management, playing staff. 
Qualifying for the champions league and getting scudded in it and being nowhere near the league challenge is unacceptable for a club of this stature. Nobody expects us to qualify from CL groups even if things were rosy, but its the manner in the defeats and the defeatist attitude from the manager and the board that is unacceptable.

One of the issues that was glaringly obvious yesterday was the difference in sideways and back passing, they mainly pass forwards towards an attacking option with speed when we pass sideways or backwards most of the time.  There was one spectacular example of that when we had a free kick about 30 yards from their goal and it ended up with a pass back to McLaughlan, how ridiculous is that, we should've taken the initiative and gone forward more at them instead of just inviting them on to us.  If it's the tactics then I'm sorry to say that fat Ange is probably a better manager than Gio, and that hurts a lot.
