To have the beauty of those 2 options now and the permutations/options is good for us.

I wouldn't like to be the gaffer making the choice, fine margins with Alfie & JD.

Don't think the same player will start our next 3 whoever gets the nod v hibs.

I think if we have serious thoughts on selling Morelos, which I think will be the plan, then he has to start the next 3 games and get some goals!

If he doesnt perform, then Defoe can be brought on but I cant see past Morelos starting all 3.

It was working fine we should’ve been 2 up, the Worrall fuck up knocked all confidence out of them.

Narrow front 3 of Mo Defoe Kent/Arfield would give Hibs something to think about.

We were controlling the game and had drastically changed 11 that day!

Worral's mistake is the thing that people remember, but Gareth McAuley was awful, his defending for Jordan Jones goal was brutal! Andy Halliday at LB didnt try and take the ball past Chris Burke once, just dumped it back at Worral any time he got the ball...as did Davis!

But even with all that, we still hit the post and missed 2-3 other chances!

I agree with your front 3 though...dont think we should be changing formation or doing anything drastic as this point in the season.

Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos are both vying for a place in the Rangers starting lineup

I read what you posted mate and agreed with most of it, but I would say that the stats arent a good barometer here as we have changed our formation/style slightly to suit Defoe (which is the right thing to do) but I would love to see Morelos playing in that team!

For me Morelos goes straight into the team on Sunday...if he does well then we stay the same for celtic, if it doesnt work we bring Defoe on and go with him for celtic!

Each to their own, I don't rate average Jack so I would state this.

    McCrorie > Jack

    Arfield > Davis

Kamara/Docherty offer more than two players who would be lucky to start 5 games between them over a season and drain us financially in wages.

McCrorie and Jack play different roles for us though, as do Afrield and Davis? Unless your suggesting we drop Arfield back to a deeper role?

Kamara and Docherty offer more than what two players?

As for your earlier comment and "Ejaria and Coulibaly say hello"...Ejaria got sent back as he couldnt hack it and Coulibaly was excellent when he first signed but Gerrard rightly replaced him with other players...I'm not sure how that can be used as examples of Gerrard seeing a good player?

    Great goal.

Shows the gulf between this level and the first team is monumental though because he has been absolutely woeful for months on end at every opportunity he has had. Positionally poor, hiding at times, and in the back pocket of any opponent he's been up against.

A loan to a Motherwell or someone would do him the world of good.

When exactly was he "woeful for months on end"? The amount of unsubstantiated shite that gets posted on here at times 😂

Of the 10 months that we have played games in so far this season, Middleton has only made appearances in 7 of them, and even at that there are a few (3 months in total) where has played 1-2 games.

    July 18 - No appearances

    August 18 - 2 Appearances for a total of 25 mins

September 18 - 5 Appearances for a total of 177mins (1 full match vs Ary Utd in Cup) - Scored 3 goals and assisted 1

    October 18 - 4 Appearances for a total of 47mins

    November 18 - 4 Appearances for a total of 343mins (3 full matches) - Scored 2 and assisted 3

    December 18 - 7 Appearances for a total of 388mins (3 full matches) - Assisted 1 goal

    January 19 - No appearances

    February 19 - 1 Appearance for a total of 29 minutes

    March 19 - No appearances

    April 19 - 1 Appearance for a total of 18 minutes

Although you have said he was " Positionally poor, hiding at times, and in the back pocket of any opponent he's been up against." I dont agree with at all! People were raving about how good he was, especially around November/December when he had a prolonged run in the team surrounding the European games. He did have poor games but if you look at those matches in isolation as a team we were awful (Aberdeen at Ibrox 10 men, Livingston Away 1-0, Hibs at Ibrox 1-1) but surely we cant be hold an 18yr old kid in his first season playing with the club responsible for that!!

If only football was as simple as that mate , if we’re going down the statts route I’m guessing they’ll show after working out % of starts etc he’s a better player than Steve Davis too ? Can’t go on that when deciding who’s good and who’s not , has to be with the naked eye , tav would have his pre contract signed with Barcelona already going by your theory on players

I agree you cant use stats to decide who is good and who isnt, but you can use them to compare similar players...I've no idea why you would compare the stats of David and Middleton for example, when they play in different roles, but it makes absolute sense to compare stats between Wylde, Middleton and MOH.

That being said, we weren't comparing their stats, I just gave them for information, but I would be interested to hear your interpretation of what my theory on players is?

You were the one that said Middleton was a Wylde/MOH clone and that their play style is identical, so I listed 3-4 things that Middleton does well that Wydle and MOH couldnt. No stats are going to prove that, but as you said the naked eye tells me that their style of play is not the same. Dont get me wrong, it is an easy/obvious comparison to make as they do have similarities, but when I think of Wylde I think of him putting his head down, kicking it past the fullback trying to beat him by sheer pace and putting a ball into the box. Middleton has much more to his game than that for me.

I also think we are being harsh on Wylde by the way comparing him to MOH! 😄

How many midfielders played a decent part this year?

First half of the season - McCrorie, Jack, Ejaria, Arfield and Coulibaly

Second half - McCrorie, Jack, Arfield, Kamara and Davis

So 5 midfielders have been what we have practically had all season. Halliday as an emergency.

The majority of players we have in midfield have played a decent part this season!

    Arfield - 44 Appearances - 3,432 minutes

    Jack - 43 Appearances - 3,488 minutes

    Coulibaly - 30 Appearances - 1,972 minutes

    Ejaria - 28 Appearances - 2,089 minutes

    McRorie - 29 Appearances - 1,459 minutes

    Davis - 16 Appearances - 836 minutes

    Kamara - 13 Appearances - 1,053 minutes

In recent weeks we have seen Arfield playing in a more advanced role and not as one of the midfield 3, and Andy Halliday has only played there a couple of times this season (7 of his 34 games this season have been played in Midfield).

Removing guys like Jack in the hope that Docherty can step up is daft, we need at least 5-6 capable players and for me that cant include Halliday or Arfield.

Jack, Davis, Rossiter and Dorrans can all go as far as I'm concerned.

Leaving McCrorie, Kamara, Arfield and Docherty. Add a quality midfielder and we have enough in midfield.

We almost always play with 2-3 central midfielders, in varying roles, and you are happy to go into a 50+game season with 4-5 players? Baring in mind that Arfield has been playing in a more advanced role and done really well?

  9. I dont understand why people are so quick to put down our players...

If we are talking purely about footballing ability, any time I have seen Rossiter play he has shown more than enough to suggest that he can play at our level!

The memories I have of him is that he is a box to box midfielder, who is good defensively but can also pick a pass ( I remember him playing 2-3 brilliant slide rule passes between FB and CB) and then going by the Hibs game, he can get into the box and finish well.

There is nothing to lose by giving him a pre-season, see how he goes and take it from there.

Can't be trusted not to get injured.

When he does play he's a crab. Always sideways, never forward.

I'm ok with letting him go.

Got to the be the worst first post I have ever read.

    Absolute nonsense!

I'm delighted at this.  An inside forward for the RW at last.  Welcome to the club, Jake.

Not too dissimilar to a young Jamie Murphy but on the right this time.

    Very good business for me!

    1. Give Dapo some game time

    2. End the Barezda experiment and punt them both.

    3. Keep Halliday and Polster

    4. Break the sad news to Dorrans it’s clearly just not meant to be for him.

    5. McAuley and Worrall for emergency cover only from now until they leave.

    6. Help Wes get a new club.

Still not convinced about Middleton if I’m honest although the kid has the right attitude.

Still not convinced about a  kid who has just turned 19 and who has only been at the club just over a year, yet already played 29 games scoring 5 and assisting 5.

Talk about giving the lad the a chance...jesus christ!

Got to laugh at all the people saying he deserves to play last couple of games.

How about all the fans who travelled to Russia and in Scotland to watch him get himself sent off for being a fucking stupid cunt.

Don’t change a winning team so he can sit on the bench.

I traveled to every away European game, including the qualifiers, and I still want him to play the last couple of games.

His transfer fee could be the key to our success.

Yeh I read the post wrongly, I thought it said he would be key to our success, not his sale.

Either way, we need to be looking at investment regardless of whether Morelos is sold or not.

If we spend the same as the last couple of season (£10m-ish) then I would be happy, any money brought in from player sales could top that up, but we should be looking to spend £10m regardless of players being sold.

We are finishing this season second at a canter.

This season is over. Our most valuable asset will be protected, simply because his sale is key to our success next season.

The team are playing well, so he is not needed. Cameo appearances and that's it.

If he gets a start fine. If he doesn't it won't matter a shit, other than less chance of an injury and I think Gerrard will err on the side of caution, because his future also depends on next season.

Who is our most valuable asset?

Because in my opinion, the player I consider to be our most valuable asset is highly unlikely to even be at the club next season, never mind key to our success!

I didnt read this correctly - you said because his sale is key to our success - which although I dont think its key to our success, I think he will be sold.

Yes. Subconsciously that's a part of it.

He's been contracted to us for three years now and contributed nothing. He played in arguably out worst European result.

I said further back I don't think he's good enough at present. He may in future be but at present he's not so we'd be as well to sell him to a club down south with a good sell on clause.

I don't think I have ever heard anything so absurd...most people who have seen him playing can see he has ability and a very good pedigree, I would even say that he was thought of higher when Gerrard wasnt at the club, so I cant work out how anyone would treat him favorably because he looks like Gerrard (which he doesnt).

As for him not contributing, how is he supposed to contribute when he is injured?

The worst result in Europe? I would suggest might be the 2-0 defeat by Progres?  In which he played 70odd mins, he came on in the 70th min as a sub for Niko Kranjcar in the first leg, but played the majority of the second although I don't know how those minutes can be used to judge him? Especially when he didnt do anything wrong at either goal.

He has shown for me in the games he has played, especially Hibs last season, that he is more than good enough to play for us at this level. The manager even said that in pre-season Rossiter was the stand out performer before his injury so I think there is scope for him to be given another chance this season and see where it takes us.

His contract runs out next year (May 2020) and given that we paid £200-300k for him, its not a huge gamble to take, giving him a chance to prove his fitness and ability.

Not good enough for us as demonstrated by the years he was with us.

Very quickly proving to be good enough for Bury.

In what way does the evidence point towards him being good enough for us? Get him sold to them or an equivalent team. Sign on clause in the contract and jobs a good'un.

In the games he played for us he was very good! Being injured isn’t a reflection on ability!

The boy had a glittering career as a teenager and at youth level, but has been hindered by injuries, how anyone can say he is good enough/not good enough is beyond me as he simply hasn’t played enough games! However, in the games he played, he showed more than enough to suggest he can play at our level.

How have you determined that he’s not good enough???
