What are they actually saying though. The majority are simply giving a run down of his career to date and then stating things like " he was offered the job in a call by Robertson on Friday and should be here in 48 hours" This was from the Herald on Sunday there. If I was a journalist I would be questioning how someone who has left Mexico to Doha clearly for the money would then go from earning 145k a month to 35k per month (assuming we pay him 700kpa). it just seems easier for them to follow the heard and run with the same story some of which start on twitter.

He's a complete unknown quantity so it'll take more than a clip of him shouting at journalists and Vlad Weiss and some celtic flop talking about how great he is and how he takes no shit for me to be won over.
The thing that I can't get my head around is that this guy was only deemed good enough to be our assistant just two years ago and since then he's had a couple of uneventful years managing in the semi retirement home that is Qatar so why does he deserve the top job now.
As a manager his CV is poor and there is nothing there that makes me think he's this untapped diamond that people are trying to build him up as.
Obviously I hope he does well, because I want Rangers to do well and if he does I'll be the first one to say I was wrong but right now I'm seriously disspaointed, underwhelmed and scunnered with this. For the past few months I've been thinking that Warburton was almost like our own version of Tony Mowbray and I honestly feel like we are about to appoint our own version of Ronnie Delia.

Feels like Robertson, Dickson, King and the Board are finally getting round to making decisions, agreeing contract terms and making announcements of who they've selected to be the DOF and the Head Coach.    Regardless of speculation in the media of who the selected 2 are to be, its surely got to be the case that the Board is now in 'make mind up' mode.  Of course its one thing to have your preferred 1,2,3 for each job and quite another to settle down to negotiate contract terms, part of which may (I'm guessing) include the DOF and Coach getting a firm enough undertaking from the Board about what transfer funds will be available to them.   That, along with the salary they may want to take on such a big recovery job, could still delay things even more and the preferred first choices may end up not being those actually appointed if the terms prove to be beyond agreement.    I don't know how far negotiations with shortlisted candidates may have got but until all parties have a deal they are satisfied with, or can live with, then its talk, talk, talk and more delay.   I'd still be surprised if they made an announcement of the more immediately vital role of Head Coach before the OF game.
But almost as importantly as revealing who the DOF is to be and who is appointed Head Coach there is another matter that sits alongside these appointments.  IMO it becomes important regardless of who is appointed.
The subject is the objectives and timing.  Put slightly differently its the messaging that the Board, a new DOF and a new Head Coach will be giving out to the Support, and shareholders, about what the 2 new appointments are there to do, what transfer fund resources they will have and how long they are to be given to do it.
Clearly the ultimate eventual objective is to win 55 and then build on from there with more titles and more and better performances in European football.    I don't think a new DOF and a new Head Coach will disagree with that.   Nor, I think, would the Board or the Support or shareholders.
The question is timing.   The whole 'going for 55' thing under Warburton last season allowed a level of expectation to grow that was - frankly and as now seen very evidently - optimistically misleading.    Warburton himself had to try to defuse that at the back end of last year when he smirklingly noted that nobody said when.   That messaging from the start of the season was not sufficiently moderated by King or the Board who were obviously content to ride on its back watching the cash registers chinging away with very large ST sales.   It backfired big time.   It eventually contributed to costing Warburton his job as early suspicion that the squad did not even flatter to deceive, it was patent deception that it was anywhere near good enough under Warburton's football-by-numbers approach to live up to a billing of 'highly competitive'.
I don't see a DOF or a Head Coach signing up under any expectation of quick success.   I just don't see them being prepared to commit to that unless there are mega £Ms available for transfer funds and we all know that's not the case.   I don't see King wanting to repeat the error of not doing anywhere near enough to work with Warburton to set and communicate a damn sight more effectively about the timeframe for achieving it.   The 'highly competitive' messaging and express acceptance of 2nd this season with a stronger challenge next season did not achieve anywhere near the level of buy-in from the Support that was needed to generate the sort of 'be patient, must persevere' messages that eventually came out before Warburton walked.   Too late by then.
So when a DOF and Head Coach is appointed I would not be in the least bit surprised if the messaging from the DOF and Head Coach make it a whole lot clearer - in plain speak - about what they are appointed to do, and the timescales, and even more than that, if it is to be a progressive rebuild because there is not enough money to splash out on big fee signings to get to 55 quicker.   The timescale bit may not be a message many want to hear.  But I would be very surprised if considerably more effort was not made by King, Robertson, the DOF and the Head Coach to set out a message of expectation that spells out that the rebuild to the top may take quite a bit of time to achieve.
As much as news of the 2 appointments is vital to the future success of the Club, so is the messaging they give about the objectives and timescales going forward.

If they score the first goal we will lose. Every manager in Scotland will know this by now. Even the old dear who runs Greggs on the PRW knows and she has dementia, a squinted eye and is preoccupied with pies with "a slight heat in them".

Seems Wotte is interested in the DOF
Mark Wotte: Restoring Rangers' fortunes is one of the 'ultimate challenges in football'
MARK Wotte said last night that the challenge of restoring Rangers' fortunes was "one of the ultimate challenges in football" and something that he "wouldn't walk away from". The Dutchman, currently employed as performance director for the Moroccan Football Federation, spoke with Ibrox director Paul Murray back in 2015 but hasn't been mentioned in an interview process thus far this time which has been thought to involve Southampton's Ross Wilson, Tottenham Hotspur's Paul Mitchell, Huddersfield's Stuart Webber, Alex McLeish, John Park and current Brentford head of football operations Robert Rowan. The former SFA performance director, however, feels Rangers are a "sleeping giant" and would be be open minded if the board wanted to contact him for their director of football job this time around.
"To get Rangers back to European level, that is one of the ultimate challenges in football, so I wouldn't walk away from that challenge," Wotte told Herald Sport. "There is a lot of potential there, a lot of history and they play now in the Scottish Premiership but they have to make one, two or three steps to get back into Europe. I would be delighted to get my hands on a job like that but I know there are a lot of names going on and former Rangers people involved. So I am not sure they are waiting for a Mark Wotte. Maybe they have forgotten about me because I have been away now for two years.
"I spoke to Paul Murray two years ago and I know Andrew Dickson very well," he added. "He is a great guy, one of the stability factors there. I know that Douglas Park is involved as well and the owner is more remotely involved. I am happy out in Morocco with a great project and a great job, but if anyone wants to contact me then I am always open minded. I think they are still a sleeping giant at the moment so it would be important to wake them up to get back into the Champions League."
Wotte, formerly director of football with Feyenoord, is convinced that the club are going down the correct route as they bid to appoint a director of football to dictate the wider strategy of the club and a head coach to work under him. He said it was more important to take their time over appointing the right men, rather than rushing someone in to assist Graeme Murty ahead of the next Old Firm match at Parkhead in March.
"It is now or never for Rangers," he said. "If they want to go back into Europe, they need to appoint someone who has a knowledge of European players as well. They need to think big and think European. Don't sign an inexperienced director of football because it is the most important job at the club. They have always had a good tradition of signing European players, from Michael Mols to De Boer or Lorenzo Amoruso, Scandinavian players too. They have to think in a European style, not just a Scottish style. Because they are so much bigger than Scotland.
"Any new coach can't change the team any more so I think it is going to be marginal any difference if you appoint a new coach right now," said Wotte. So I would stick with Graeme Murty for now and take my time to make the right decision. This is no time to rush into the wrong appointment.
"It is not about now for Rangers, it is about next season and the season after. That is the goal of Rangers - not just to win the Old Firm match which is coming in three or four weeks' time. You should just ignore the fact that you are heading towards an Old Firm game. For the fans of course it is an important game but more important for the fans is getting the club back to the highest possible level - the Champions League."

We need someone in pronto as we have 3 tough league games with the cup coming up and we cannot afford for the sheep to get any further ahead of us. If it's an interim manager fine however we cannot afford to have Murty in charge any longer.

To be fair I think and someone can correct me but PSV/AJAX have won the majority of titles in the last 30-40 years with the exception of 2/3 times. Looking at his transfer policy he promotes a look of youths which right now we do not have. He is a great name but the more I think about it......current players, youth set up, lack or very little transfer kitty would he be a good fit. Some would say he could attract good young players from Holland/Spain but how would they do on a Wednesday night in Dingwall.

We would have a chairman who is not a convicted felon. We could also have a hands on chairman that is there all the time and turns up at games. Hopefully he would not make sweeping statements but work quietly in the background.
We would be in a better position to attract investment.
King would still have his shares unless someone agreed to buy them from him and the 1-1.5m he has loaned might have to be repaid depending on the terms.
We would not be in a worse position.
