    Every game vs St Johnstone.

Sasa was like Liam Neeson against the folk who stole his daughter whenever we played them.

Trying to make up for getting ripped a new one by them at Ibrox when he was playing in the position we bought him for .

Done well to re-invent himself as a solid left back , and never let us down in that position .

Fuck I forgot about that and the Livingston emails are due.

Its a nightmare mate trying to make sure moneys always in to cover,  I’m paying for three people ?

I've got mines and the boys . The look on my Mrs face when I said the same to her about all the games coming up was funny , she was planning what to do with the extra money once the ST money was paid off    She's happy for us really though as she knows how much today has meant to us after all the shit we've had to put up with in recent times .

Season ticket payments out tomorrow anaw, would be nice if they gave us until the end of next week for Europa League Payment

Im expecting the emails tomorrow night and money out Monday... cunts ?

I'm hoping like you that someone decides to wait till the end of the week and gives us a bit of respite ! It's been a hectic start to the season so far for those on CC so hopefully that gets taken into account . No matter who we draw , if they price it right then we'll sell out these games no problem and give the club a (probably) unexpected cash bonus .

Personally i'm not assuming Sept 2 is an acid test or watershed moment. I genuinely believe we will continue to improve and develop regardless of the outcome that day. For me Dec 29 is the date in the diary. We will know where we are in the league v them and victory on that day to whoever will make them champions!

Like yourself , I think that where we are placed going into the New year ( and next transfer window ) will give us a better indication of the possibility of a title challenge this season .

At this moment , I'm just enjoying the positive start we've made under SG and the fact that going to games has the feelgood factor now that has been sadly missing for too long recently . The improvements we have watched so far give me genuine hope that we can achieve something special under this management team and if it's close come the turn of the year then why not this season ?

I'd hope not but wouldn't be surprised.

To save cash there's been at least a couple of players in our recent past that were rumoured not to be picked to play because further games would mean activating an additional payment clause

Michael Ball comes to mind . IIRC , he waived ( or deferred ) money owed to him whilst also negotiating a settlement with Everton , in order to play a part in the remaining games of the Helicopter Sunday 2 season !

Have great memories of him, but I'm still slightly embittered about how we threw money at him to see out his contract (turning down a reported 5 million bid from Ajax at the same time), then he downed tools on us that season when we needed him most. Suggestions at the time that he was feigning injury to protect his Chelsea move, but who knows.

I tend to agree with regards to his last season , I'm still a bit bitter about a lot of what happened during that season and how various decisions made , combined to fuck up 10 IAR ( probably best in another thread though )

As for Brian though , I recall being more impressed by the capture of Boli that summer , but how fucking wrong can you get :duh:  Laudrup has been the most outstanding player to play in Scottish football in the modern era IMO , Paul Gascoigne in his first 18 months comes close but Laudrup edges it for me .

How lucky were we to witness both of them in a Rangers shirt ? I hope that one day soon , the support who have had to endure some of the recent imposters in our colours get to watch someone approaching that kind of standard playing for us

Thanks for the memories Brian

If I remember correctly Souness was not picked for the opening game

In Argentina , he only played in the game against the Dutch . Spain '82 , I'm think he captained the side . To be fair to McLeod , Rioch & Masson had done well in the qualifiers but by the Home Internationals it's fair to say they were struggling to achieve that previous form , and Souness , Gemmill and Hartford all had decent claims to be first choice for the tournament proper but Ally was loyal to a fault when it came to certain players , His choice of putting his old Aberdeen player Joe Harper before DJ, who had just scored 38 goals in a treble winning side , sums that up .

“I’ve never been dropped in my life “ was his famous reaction

Was that not in response to SAF leaving him out of the Uruguay game in Mexico 86 ?

  8. The planning and preparation that Ally and the sfa put into that tournament was a fucking disgrace . That Scotland squad was capable of a lot more (same as the '74 & 82 teams ) but let down by poor management , Ormond and McLeod picked a side and then expected the players to work things out for themselves while the Man who Knew was the opposite and stifled flair players in order to adhere to a system that was designed to get us through the tournament without tarnishing BJK's " legend " .  That was probably the last time that Scotland sent a team to a World Cup looking to do more than just take part .

I enjoyed the programme though , even if it told us nothing new . Loved seeing the old boy buying his butcher meat with the fag hanging out his mouth  changed days indeed !

Klaus Augenthaler when he scored Bayern's 3rd in 89, along with half the stadium. We were 1-2 down and he stepped up and launched one into the top corner from 30 yards.

You had to admire that one , even though it put a bit of a damper on our forthcoming bus trip to the return leg . In consolation , the Ocktoberfest was on at that time .

Kempes for Valencia that night was special , and probably the when it started to dawn on me that some players were simply on a different level than what we were used to seeing week in week out in Scotland .

I never went through but was out with the local band this morning in Greenock.

You missed a great day mate .

My wee home town was looking good today . No surprise that some on parade struggled with the hill on the Calder Road in this heat , but the Greenock boys are used to walking up and down hills . :UK:

Heading back out soon to watch the Imperial FB & Bellshill Protestant Boys FB remind the tarriers that We are the People .

In addition to all the names mentioned I'll add Stale Stensaas to the list mainly because all the rest of the UK was buying great wee players from the Scandinavian countries at that time and we signed him and he was utter gash

Allegedly , Liverpool were negotiating with Rosenberg for a fee of around £450 000 when Walter and murray decided to " blow them out the water " and stuck in a bid for £1.5 million :winnings:

While I think any left back would have struggled to replace David Robertson , I know who's value was closer to the mark .

Especially if it was run by Charles Green and Imran Ahmad who'd just taken over from Craig Whyte.

Easy to say with hindsight . And if they were so sure that Green was a fraud and up to no good , why not say something in public ? As we have seen recently , it's not that hard to put something out without putting your name to it ( Agents , Wives , Girlfriends etc )

He's only had six years TBF
