I really can’t believe he’s gone. Not in my wildest dreams did I expect that to happen so soon.
Him leaving doesn’t guarantee a complete turnaround but it’s a very good start and I feel quite excited that Beale won’t be constrained by the failures of that wee rat going forward. 

If you ever needed confirmation of there being slight truth in this, just go back and watch his AGM performance earlier this year.

I agree that's how we'd operate in an ideal world but, realistically, it's just as hard to get filler out as it is to bring quality in when you're on a limited budget. Also, I don't think it's as easy as prioritising the high quality targets to the exclusion of all others (sadly).

Beale will have an idea of his preferred squad make-up and how it maps to our salary structure. That will include starters but it'll also include squad players. The goal is to fill each of those roles with the best possible player while hitting other strategic targets (like getting the squad age down or increasing player sale values). The 'best possible player' for each role obviously varies significantly because backup players have to accept getting paid less + playing less. Ideally, you would bring in the starters first, and I'm sure we do prioritise them, but if a high priority target for a lower priority role becomes available, we'll still move for them. I think that's how we look at it. Have targets for each role and move for them when you're able. That's why we often seem to sign players in non-priority positions. We could've had a worse starting CM than Raskin months/years ago but we waited for our target instead. 

All our successful squads in modern times have had backup strikers. We need to replace Morelos and Roofe with genuine quality in the coming season(s) but we’re never going to have 4-5 high quality strikers unless the SPL changes very significantly. If we could replace a “good finisher but fairly limited overall” type player, like Colak, with another guy who would score a similar number of goals, cost less in wages, and be home-grown, that’s good business. I doubt that’s possible anyway given what Hearts would probably ask.

The only way I’d take Shankland is if we can replace Colak with him and have it be a net saving in terms of wages and fees in and out.

It's that Beale looks to protect a new CH pairing by playing Lundstram at the expense of the likes of Cantwell.

we renew in huge numbers whether we have a season playing against postmen, bin men and labourers or we have just got to a European final, the Rangers support don’t need pish sound bites or plants about budget etc.
