Kris Commons linked with Rangers

Rangers and Celtic are set to go head-to-head to sign Kris Commons from Derby County this month.

Commons is out of contract at the end of the season and Derby are bracing themselves for an approach from Rangers if Kenny Miller's transfer to the Turkish champions, Bursaspor, goes through, giving them the money to fund a bid.

Celtic were hoping to sign Commons on a free transfer in the summer but their hand will be forced if Rangers try to broker a deal beforehand.

Derby have matched Commons's salary demands but are realistic about their hopes of keeping the Scotland international in the face of interest from Rangers and Celtic.

Shrewd signing but I think we need a striker, but he's a good player so DILEMMA.

Miller out Commons in would be good. We would be getting a naturally left sided player who can score and set up goals and would do just fine up here. If we get the chance to offer Derby cash for him we might get him on the cheap this window.

celtc are skint.

Doesn't stop them reportedly going for every man and his dog that has kicked a ball lately.

Now it's James Vaughan from Everton...Kris Commons...Conor Sammon...Garra Dembele from Levski Sofia...David Templeton...Jonathon Woodgate and are apparently close to agreeing a fee with Nottingham Forest that would get them Kevin Wison in immediately instead of waiting till next season.

Doing pretty good for a skint club that can have 48 professionals on their books

I think we need a striker who is small and can finish. He needs to have a bit of skill , alot of pace and works as much as Miller and Novo did. If we sign Commons we will no doubt push Naismith upfront with Jelavic. This sounds ideal but Naismith has been playing so well in his postion. IMO we need a small striker to partner Jelavic. This combination has worked so well in the past. McCoist Hatley and Prso and Novo. This is something I have been thinking. Why dont we take a slight gamble and buy a striker for around 2-3 Million and eat into next years funds? Whats the point in gambling on a guy for 450k because if he doesnt make it we will have Beattie and this other striker for next season with nobody to replace them. Just a thought! Goodwillie being charged must be pissing Walter and Ally off but maybe we will still sign him!
