Ally McCoist has confirmed that Rangers have matched Blackburn's bid for Dundee United striker David Goodwillie.

Reports emerged on Tuesday suggesting Scotland international Goodwillie is undergoing a medical at Ewood Park but the Gers have moved to hijack his proposed Premier League switch.

Blackburn have reportedly offered £2million up front for the 22-year-old, with £800,000 potential add-ons plus a sell-on clause, which has been accepted by United.

Asked if Rangers' latest bid is equal to that offered by the Lancashire club, McCoist said: "As far as I'm aware, yes.

"Unfortunately I can't give you a lot of information, other than we have put in a new bid to Dundee United.

"We just have to wait and see in the next couple of hours what happens

There are conflicting things all over twitter, some saying our latest bid rejected, some saying it has been accepted, and some saying he is on the way back to scotland. One of the blackburn local journalists posted a tweet saying a bid had been accepted and GW was on his way back, and then a minute later that United had rejected the offer.

SSN are always way off the pace, and a lot of the online news placed just recycle stuff with very little new information.

Who knows what is happening, but our credibility is on the line now. Let's get this lad signed and might give us a boost for tomorrow night. Otherwise we are going to look like numpty's.

If Dundee United reject a matched offer lets fuck them and Boycott Tannandice this season. Will cost them upwards of £200,000.

The will have rejected it due to the structure of the payments. Either that or they don't want him in the SPL next season

How many bids have Barcelona made for Fabregas in the last 2 years. The player wants to go but the clubs can't agree fees. Does this make Barcelona muppets?

Get a fucking life lads, missing out on Goodwillie isn't end of world.

I still think he will sign for us tho.

JIM SPENCE:

Rangers latest bid for Goodwillie close to Blackburn offer but not quite as good. Utd reject it

KEITH DOWNIE:

STV News understands, Dundee United have rejected TWO further bids from Rangers today for David Goodwillie

STV: http://sport.stv.tv/football/scottish-premier/rangers/264722-rangers-fail-in-two-new-bids-for-david-goodwillie/

Rangers have failed in two new bids for David Goodwillie, as they desperately seek permission to speak to the Blackburn Rovers-bound striker.

Dundee United rejected the offers, the sixth and seventh attempts by the Ibrox club to land the player this summer, at the same time as the 22-year-old underwent a medical at Ewood Park.

Rangers had previously made five bids for the striker, all of which were turned down. It is understood that the Glasgow club’s proposed payment structure, paying in instalments over a number of years, remains the main stumbling block to a deal.

STV Grant:

Dundee United have now rejected a total of 7 bids from Rangers for David Goodwillie
