chic 16
Looking at recent pictures of first team at training and noticed that all players now wearing shin pads. I can only assume this is another one of Mark Warburton's implimentations since arriving. Again so much more professional than running around with ankle socks on like a good number of the squad did last couple of years.

Inigo 33,301
Last one I remember with the old socks around the ankles routine was Mo Johnston 25 years ago. You just come out of a coma or something, mate?

ScottBF2 3,540
Shinguards can restrict your movement slightly, make you feel a wee bit heavier on the ground. Don't understand why most teams wouldn't do this.
WATP-FOREVER 5,231
And the manager keeps his shorts on too - totally different class.
WATBB 1,524
Training without them is pointless. You move freer and are slightly less restricted without them, but what's the point in that, not going to play a match without them.Like Warburton said, there's little things he's changing as well as big changes. Healthier diets, double/triple sessions, better warm up and cool down procedures. The old training regime was so out-dated, you probably had to put coal into Murray Park in the morning for it to shudder to life. Thank fuck we're past it. Johnny Dangerously 7,571
I spent years as a kid trying to win a pair of John Greig's shinguards in the old evening citizen. One for older bears to remember maybe.

BigAmo'sThighs 848
I found this out recently, apparrently it's purely injury prevention. I thought it'd be a ploy to get the players used to a game situation etc but just precautionary.
piperpete 3,186
I think they should have training shin guards and game ones, the training ones should be a whole lot heavier so when they play in the games with the lighter ones they are flying due to the lighter weight,

LaudrupsPatrickBoots 13,540
I wear shinnies to my own team's training and get slagged to death on a weekly basis for it. Personally don't feel comfortable without them and think training without them just risks unnecessary injuries.

piperpete 3,186
aye mate and ankle weights.that would be fine running but during contact it may cause slight issues, it a trick both boxers and runners do to strengthen their legs and would work for footballers too.
