WadeWilson 4,670
Bruno Alves has been selected in Portugal's 23-man squad for this summers Confederations Cup in Russia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_FIFA_Confederations_Cup_squads#Portugal The tournament runs from 17th June to July 2nd, so he will therefore miss the Europa League first qualifying round. Also, with the World Cup qualifiers being played this month (Portugal play Latvia on the 9th June and he was in the squad for yesterday's 4-0 win against Cyprus) Bruno will not have any close-season rest period this summer at all. Hopefully he doesn't start to creak at some point as he is no spring chicken. None of the Mexican lads we have been linked with have been selected for their Confederations Cup squad, so at least that's something.

The only other player in recent years to be selected for a major international tournament was Mohsni who was called up for Tunisia at AfCoN 2015 but he didn't get any game time as he stormed away in a huff out of the dressing room after the first match to phone his Ma because he didn't get picked to play. WadeWilson 4,670
Portugal are in Group A with Russia, New Zealand and Mexico. So, if Pena had been picked him and Alves could have faced off against one another. Bruno, Cristiano and co have every chance of making it through that group into the semis and possibly the final itself. Group B consists of Germany, Australia, Chile and Cameroon. Nnnice. I am calling a Germany v Portugal final right now.
kaiser1041 9,088
??he can't be in the squad according to other teams fans he's past it too slow and to old for the spl. cunts are signing broadfoot and Berra and commenting on our European champion international player
j1mgg 3,766
He will storm it, score the winning goal in the final, and get player of the tournament. Real madrid will then come in with £50m bid

So they have! 16 players with under 10 caps and the whole strikeforce have one cap between them. Draxler, Mustafi, Kimmich and Hector are the only ones who would perhaps be first-pick. SeparateEntityMyArse 53,815
So he has a competitive pre season whilst playing with the current European champions. Can live with that.
the_r_sole 366
Thought we knew this when he signed? Tbh he's not first choice usually so I'd imagine he won't see much game time unless someone gets injured/suspended

Goianegra 4,684
Gone were the days of us signing players going away to join his fellow European Champions on international duty I thought. Is nice after the last half decade.
ElBufalo20 7,915
Tournaments on itv as well so hopefully gets game time. what a difference a year makes. Last season Barton missed pre season cos of media commitments and deciding Glastonbury was more important this summer Alves is missing cos he's away on international duty with the European Champions

Orangeclement 570
May not be their strongest German squad but still lots of good young players there what better way of giving them experience than in this meaningless tournament.
Deanzmeanzheinz 4,312
Chile to win it. If you win Copa America with both those Argentinian and Brazilian teams then you need to be very good - and they are.
