500k for him given how short at the back we are... was simply too much of a risk. We don't often make the right decision with transfers but hindsight has shown we made the right one this time. 

Fitness wise this is his best season in 4 years and he's still going to miss a third of the season through injury. 

He was the only CB we were being linked with in the window. Clear the board wanted to bring him in as attempts were made. 

It looks like the board thought hearts would cave in and accept a lower offer. 

If 500k was deemed to risky then we should have had another option even loan planned. We went into that window knowing both Helander and Balogun weren't going to be fit for some time. We badly needed another option instead of just keep playing Bassey.

They certainly aren’t the pushover at the back that they were earlier in the season.
