Had we beat a fairly mediocre malmo team then everything could be different now. I dont think we truly appreciated at the time how much failure in that one tie would effect the medium term future of the club. We went into that tie with a half arsed attitude considering what it meant. Champions league money that year wouldve made all the difference considering celtic never had it. That was the year the gap financially couldve closed. We actually allowed our main striker extra time off and to miss the first leg and also a weakened midfield through kamaras suspension without making any effort to stengthen that area in the transfer market. It also appeared the manager had lost interest around this time. In hindsight that was a massive fuck up that we havent recovered from. The big difference between both teams is they actually play as a team, can pass the ball and have intricate passages of play which you can see are rehearsed through training.
