There have been several SPFL jobs he’s applied for and not even got as far an interview.

Not really I'd trust most SPFL clubs judgement on managers with the amount of constant failures who keep landing new jobs.

It’s a fucking merry go round of managers in this league, it’s hilarious

The fact that Jim Goodwin was at the head of anyone’s list after Aberdeen was mental. Jack Ross on numerous shortlists too.

Tbf, that’s fitba everywhere. Less about their judgement anyway and more about Thomson’s motivations for touting himself for a return to us. He left Rangers because he felt he was above academy football and wanted to be a manager in his own right. Now, he can’t get a gig as manager having rubbed folk up the wrong way at Kelty and is looking for a way back

Thought he left as the budget was going to be smaller?

Thats what Open Goal made it seem like, he’s always touted on there as an excellent coach.

Part of the reason he left was because he'd applied for several jobs while he was there and failed to get any. It's played into why nobody took a punt on him post-Kelty (Raith/Dundee/Hibs). Some felt that he'll just do the same thing and keep applying for jobs further up the food chain. Hard to convince players to commit when your manager is looking for an exit at the first opportunity.

He is a decent coach by all accounts but he's just that, a decent coach.

Better than half the clowns who keep getting jobs then.

Depends on which ones you're on about. Also being a great coach =/= a good manager. I know guys who absolutely rave about Eddie May as a coach but he's piss poor as a manager. Same with Goodwin, almost everybody I speak to think he's a brilliant coach but not necessarily manager.

Take it by your posts, sorry inaccurate posts, you've got a problem with Kevin Thomson.

Can hardly hold being ambitious in applying for better jobs against someone. Every manager in the country would leave for a better opportunity.

Thomson seems to have done a good job in getting them promoted to League 1 at the first time of asking, and is usually spoken pretty well of as a coach.

I think the issue is that he left after just one season and for no other coaching role. Hardly ambitious in that he didn’t move on to a bigger club.

I have no issues with him joining our club in a coaching capacity but a few steps away from players at under 20’s

Incredibly naive from those clubs if they don't think their current managers aren't using them as a stepping stone.

Not one word of truth in this.

Somebody on FF saying they’ve heard that Thomson and Steven Davis “will be heavily involved with the academy, if not running it.”

Yeah, that sounds better than the other rumour it would only be Thomson in charge to be honest

It’s important for the club to have solid ex pros around who can not only represent the club well but impart the correct mentality into younger players. There has to be a balance between that and jobs for the boys. I’ve not heard too much negative about Thomson as a coach but I’m sure there are plenty on here that know more than me.
