Steven Davis

Recommended Posts

Davis was part of the team that capitulated massively pre covid, part of the team that lennon bested 2 out of 3 times that pre covid season and part of the team that was in the process of shitting the bed post title win

Having a player of his quality would be nice, but ultimately pointless when our back 4 is fucking howling and keeper is suspect, no surprise our only consistent season domestically was when the backline was actually good

Until we sort out the defence, we'll still get done with balls in behind, defenders sleeping, tav being caught out etc etc

Davis helped us go unbeaten against them in 7 games in a row before Gio came in and we went to fucking shite domestically and solely against them ever since.

Would be a miracle going 2 games unbeaten against them these days. It one of the most predicatable derby's in world football today.

Davis was good and we could do with someone dictating play. Lundstram, Jack, Kamara, Davis all far better than what we currently have at doing that.

But don’t think Davis would transform us. He played in a team with 10 better players surrounding him.

He did help us, but again that was the best our defence has been since weir and bougherra

A davis player would help, but not to the extent that sundays result doesn't go the same way, our backline is still a fucking disgrace, a davis player doesn't stop maeda beating tav to a ball at the back post yet again, or our defence sleeping a lot

We need a helander type player at the back (fit one obviously) one who can read the game and deal with issues at the back before they become an issue, our defence is constantly putting out fires instead of preventing them

To replace Davis you’re talking £10m easy

You're looking too far down the development chain there.

We want these type of players either through our academy, or in early for a couple million and turn them into the higher priced players while picking up silverware.

What we need, is a decent scouting department.

We dont have big games domestically no?

You can’t say no big games then go, actually just domestically.

He turned up in the first 1-0 January game for 55 for one, off the top of my head.

We've not had a better centre mid since Davis left the first time or the second time. He was the difference for us in the 55 season. Once we swapped Jack out for Davis to play alongside Kamara it changed us as a team.

Weirdly enough it's Davis' desire and brains we miss just as much as footballing ability. I remember a few occasions against celtic, particularly the 55 season, him absolutely busting a gut to get back in position or help out defence to cut out a counter attack. The best and smartest footballer on the park on any park in Scotland but also the desire to win.

So he didn’t have a good game?

We werd lucky to not be 4 down in the first half hour with shagger keeping us in it, and if we dont register a single shot on target then id argue that no, our attacking mids didn't play well given the tarriers played twenty mins or so with 10men

So nothing about his performance thanks, just empty conjecture.

The game we had zero shots on target? That one?

He played well that game. You're moving the goalposts now claiming you want only domestic games for your narrative meaning we discount the Europa final, Braga etc.

Hearts away under Gio was good. Game v the tarriers where Davis scored was brilliant. Hibs away and home where he scored, Aberdeen at home when he came on and changed the game and set up roofes winner in the 1-0.

He got called up for his first international caps at Rangers. At one point he played more games than anyone else in the world that season and we made over £10m for him. No bad for a guy who never showed up.

There's a lot of issues in our team, but our complete lack of ability to control games is a consistent over the last couple years which a good ballplaying 6 in the middle of the pitch would help with a lot.

Most of our midfielders just seem to panic under pressure and take the easy pass back or lose the ball. I was really hoping Raskin would be that player when he came in but that obviously hasn't worked.

Can't be sure but I think Barron could grow into that role and become that type of player.

We can hope at least.

My point exactly. It might be coincidence, but our OF record nosedived as soon as we didn’t have Davis in the side.

When did this bullshit of 6's, 8's, 10's etc creep it's way into our football vernacular.

People generally were not using this phrasology just a few years ago.

Is it an Americanism?
