SIMON Grayson has announced that Pool WILL spend £200,000 to bring Alan Gow to Bloomfield Road.

The deal could still crash if Gow decides he doesn't want to join Blackpool.

But Grayson has for the first time laid his cards on the table and declared that he does want to sign the Glasgow Rangers frontman on a permanent basis.

The 26-year-old hitman secured a point against Swansea when he fired a second half equaliser – his first goal in nine games since nicking the winner at Watford on November 1. And after a few weeks on the sidelines – his last start was against Sheffield Wednesday last month – it puts him back in favour and has led to Grayson publicly admitting he wants the Scot at his club.

A fee of £200,000 has been agreed between Pool and the Scottish club and the only thing that can prevent the deal going through is if Gow decides he wants to go elsewhere.

Grayson is in no doubt about his feelings. "Do I want to sign Alan Gow? Yes I'd like to sign him and hopefully we can get something sorted," said the boss.

"If the fee was £2m then that's a lot for a player. We know what we can afford. What else can you go and get for that money (£200,000)? You have to work within a certain budget.

"The bottom line is Alan Gow is a talented player and he has produced performances for us.

"Hopefully he will be a Blackpool player, if we can agree everything."

Gow helped change the game after coming on at half-time in place of Ben Burgess, and scoring his fourth goal for the Seasiders since his loan move at the start of September.

Asked why Gow had fallen out of favour in recent weeks, often being an unused substitute, Grayson replied: "He has not fallen out of favour.

"It's just how things go in the course of a game in that strikers can come on or they can stay on the bench because the two who are already playing are doing really well.

"On Saturday I just thought it was the right thing to do to change it at half-time and get Alan on.

"Players are there to come on and once they do get on, they have to take their opportunity and Alan has done that."

Grayson added: "He has had a good spell for us at this club.

"He has been very lively, he is a fantastic lad and he has worked ever so hard for the team.

"Other players have grabbed opportunities and Alan obviously went out of the team.

"But he has worked hard and waited patiently for his opportunity and he came in and took it on Saturday."

the boy deserves a chance,he went out on loan and done well now give him a chance for the rest of season and if it doesn't work sell to blackpool in the summer.

Just one problem with this chaps Grayson has now become the manager of Leeds!

Seen that, hopefully he buys him for Leeds (tu)

It'd be a good move for him as well, playign for one of the better teams in that division he should get given a few chances and regain some confidence

Alan Gow's Blackpool future is in doubt and it seems unlikely that he will remain at Bloomfield Road following the recent departure of Simon Grayson. The on loan Rangers man wants to return to Scotland to give it a real good go and breaking into there first team. Although numerous teams are also interested in him following his goals whilst at the seasiders.

Speaking to Sky Sports his agent, Phil McTaggart said "Alan is due to return to Rangers after the Wolves game at the end of the month and he wants to give a real go when he gets back there, Alan has done well at Blackpool and they were thinking of signing him permanently, but I am not sure where that stands now their manager has left."

He added "He is happy he got some action under his belt and he is raring to go. We will wait and see what happens when he returns to Rangers as he would love to get a chance there. Rangers will make a decision on Alan's future. As it stands he is still a Rangers player and we will play it by ear in January."

Simon Grayson will have to fend off strong interest from old club Blackpool and elsewhere in the Championship to land wanted man Alan Gow.

The Leeds United boss is set to make a £200,000 move for the Glasgow Rangers frontman when the transfer window opens tomorrow.

The 26-year-old's loan spell with the Seasiders ended after last night's clash with leaders Wolves – with the Scot netting five goals in 17 games in a productive spell at Bloomfield Road.

Pool are keen to sign the striker permanently, but big admirer Grayson could yet beat them to the punch.

After his final game in charge of Blackpool against Swansea on December 20, Grayson expressed a desire to land six-footer Gow permanently, although his agent Phil McTaggart says he hasn't had direct contact from him this month. But with the new Whites' chief having warned his former club on Boxing Day that he is aiming to pip them to several transfer targets on his new year wish-list, the smart money is on Grayson firming up a move imminently.

Gow, capped once by the Scotland B team, was also the target of summer interest from Norwich and Burnley, snubbing a move to Turf Moor as part of the transfer deal that saw Kyle Lafferty move to Ibrox for £3.25m.

At the time, boyhood Gers fan Gow harboured hopes of having a long-term future at the Scottish giants.

But it remains to be seen whether he has one upon his return north of the border with Rangers willing to sell him last summer.

McTaggart said: "Being 100 per cent honest, I've not spoken to Simon in connection to Alan for maybe over a month. But I know he did want to sign him at Blackpool.

"He enjoyed his time at Blackpool and Simon was good enough to give him the opportunity and from Alan's side, he gave it back and got them some vital points and goals at the right time.

"There's a few clubs in the Championship looking at him and asking me questions.

"He's done well (at Blackpool). He's had some game time and has scored something like five goals. It was much-needed after only playing at Rangers just twice in a year. He's showed he can play and score goals in that division (Championship).

"That's alerted a lot of clubs. And obviously Rangers were willing to sell him in August time and there was a bit of interest from Norwich and Burnley etc. People knew that he was available.

"People know the package (with Alan) and know he's quite appealing to a few teams. If somebody did come in, they'd know what they are going to get."

Gow was also linked with SPL side Motherwell, Birmingham City and Doncaster Rovers last summer.

Meanwhile, Tony Parkes – Grayson's no.2 at Blackpool – has thrown his hat into the ring to land the Seasiders job on a full-time basis – with Steve Thompson as his deputy.

Grayson who has already brought in Ian Miller – right-hand man to Colin Hendry during his time in the Pool hotseat, was instantly linked with a move for the backroom duo after being handed the Elland Road reins.

United are continuing to monitor Jermaine Beckford's fitness ahead of Saturday's trip to Hereford United after he came off after 65 minutes of Sunday's 3-1 win at Stockport County as a precaution after feeling a slight hamstring twinge.

Top-scorer Beckford only made his return after five matches out with a hamstring tear in the 1-1 Boxing Day draw with Leicester City.

English trio lead race for Rangers striker Alan Gow

RANGERS striker Alan Gow is weighing up a permanent move to Blackpool after the Seasiders finally offered him a contract.

Gow and his agent Phil McTaggart met with Blackpool six weeks ago to discuss the possibility of making his loan move to the English Championship a permanent one.

But the English outfit took until the weekend to come up with a formal two-and-a-half-year deal for the player, who Rangers have made available for only an initial s200,000.

The frustrated former Airdrie marksman made the six-month loan switch in the summer after playing only two cup matches for Rangers following his Bosman transfer from Falkirk.

And the 26-year-old has impressed south of the border, scoring five times, and was even compared to Pele and a young George Best by his team-mates.

McTaggart said: "Alan is due back up in Scotland to spend time with his family and I'll meet with him to find out what he thinks before we give Blackpool a response.

"We've waited a long time to get the offer but he has enjoyed it down there and done well. He has scored goals and shown he can play in the English Championship."

Owen Coyle's Burnley and Leeds, now managed by former Blackpool boss Simon Grayson, are two of the other clubs keeping an eye on Gow's situation.

Meanwhile, Scotland international Andy Webster has returned to Rangers after his nightmare five month loan spell at Bristol City.

The former Hearts and Wigan defender joined City in August but a series of injuries meant the 26-year-old was only able to make two starts for the Championship club.

City manager Gary Johnson said: "Andy was unlucky during his time with us because every time we needed to push him he broke down with an injury.

"He never really got up to our level of fitness."
