Rangers are preparing to announce the imminent sale of Kris Boyd to Birmingham City.

A spokesman for the CC Championship side denied that the deal had been finalised contrary to mother media reports. But all the signs point to an announcement later today or tomorrow.

The Glasgow club have been attempting to increase the £3million offer initially tabled by Birmingham manager Alex McLeish.

Boyd, the SPL’s leading goalscorer, trained with the Ibrox side this morning but is expected to travel to the Coca Cola Championship side later today or tomorrow.

Rangers’ financial dealings are hampered by the fact that Kilmarnock will receive 20% of the transfer fee. The Ibrox side will also need to complete an instalment of £1million to Burnley for Kyle Lafferty by the end of January.

The selling of Boyd will no doubt anger Rangers fans as it becomes apparent the club’s selling agenda is concrete.

Rangers manager Walter Smith has made it well known that Rangers will consider serious offers as they attempt to cut their inflated wage bill.

Rangers currently trail arch rivals Celtic by five points in the domestic league.

Boyd has had a spectacular return to favour following a period of intense scrutiny and criticism.

The striker’s future at Rangers was in doubt following season 2007-08 after he failed to secure a first team place and had his fitness and motivation widely questioned.

Rangers turned down a summer bid of £2.5million from Cardiff City.

Boyd then sensationally quit the national team after being overlooked on the bench for the Norway World Cup qualifier in October. A high profile war of words with Scotland manager George Burley followed.

even if he don't sign for us

someone else is going to take him

and i think we will up the bid

because the board know that fans are not happy and won't do anything else to upset us

and boyd knows he could be in the premiership next year

and mcfadden and o connor and mcleish will make it easier to get him

I think the reservation Blues fans will have is that he will be up against much tougher defences and better teams in the Champinship than in the SPL.As big a club as Rangers are, there is a big difference between scoring against Falkirk 4 times a season and scoring against even average Championship teams. The SPL is about the equal of league 1.But if he can make the transistion, then for £3/4 million which is not a huge ammount nowadays for a stiker, it will be a good bit of business.

Taken from a 'buzzing' Birmingham forum, yawwn.

League One...Ha who's he kidding.

Its a done deal now though - Goodbye Boydy, thread's closed?!!

Boyd is a junky and Walter and SDM want rid o, a shame but true. He is a natural goal scorer against the smaller clubs but is way off the quality we need for europe (next season) we'd be aswell makin some money from him and let him snort his stuff down south.

Exactly.... Role on match of the day this time next year looking back on Boyds hatrick against Utd Chelsea or Liverpool.....Ha

The SPL is shite mate, wake up and smell the, er, shite!

If the clubs up here had the same money these championship clubs do then, yes, theyd be just as good as your prestons, burnleys etc but the fact is they dont.

The standard of football up here is woeful, only us, the mhanks, Dundee Utd, Hearts and maybe Hibs could hold there own in the championship just now.

i think its a good bit of business actually for a guy who lacks a lot in his game n we ave done it with enough time to find a replacement. hopefully smith has earmarked someone to fill his boots n we arent left short up top. David Healy to rangers!!!

What does it mean to be a Rangers player when if you show any promise you're going to be sold?

And what does it mean to be a Rangers supporter when we never know what's happening or where the club is going?

Are we all supposed to Follow Follow regardless of the decisions that are being made by the management?

We're becoming a club without a voice, without a soul and without a chance of winning the league this year.

Fuck them all.
