You're using stills here to prove a point you need footage for.

To be honest, nothing much needs proved - the defence is/was a shambles - and a lot of that goes down to coaching/management

But Bassey gets easily pushed or pulled out of position - which is why at the first he was behind the attackers and why he ran directly into Aribo - who was attacking the ball. At the second he was out of position half way up the left wing. And at the third - the entire defence was so far out of any recognisable shape that it was probably harder fro them not to score.

My actual point is, it's not too hard to fix - but you have to play a centre half, even if that is King/Sands

As usual, stills tell only part of the story. Why do folk persist in that shit. You have to watch the footage to know what's really going on in those three images.

    I did

Borna was at fault for the 3rd. Others get some blame, but no way does Borna get off lightly for that one.

The third is shambolic - the only thing I would say is Bassey should be right where there player scored the goal from - that's where a left sided Centre Half should be positioned.

Borna was there and should have put a challenge in - but you can't debate it's where Bassey should be.

I've seen better defending down the park on a Sunday afternoon

Tav let's the guy run away from him at a throw in and get a cross in. Mcgregor stays rooted to his line for a ball coming to the 6 yard line. Borna has yards on his man but for some reason decides to sit down at the worst possible time.

But right sided Goldson covering the right sided near post area for low crosses is to blame?

No, Bassey is to blame - he should be covering the left and allowing Goldon to move up to cover the danger on the right - sorry, I thought I made that clear.

But Goldson should be pushing the kid over there - and he should be facing the ball

A decent LB, NEVER a CB.

We've asked too much of the lad to fill in there for this long.

And to be honest, that's why it's not a major issue to fix - you play a centre half in that position, and either Bassey or Borna at left back and you'll be OK.

If Balogun is injured and he lander out then play King - he's an actual Centre Half, maybe even Sands, if that's his true position.

Can't believe we didn't go for some bog standard big left sided centre half in the window as a stop gap - just a stopper.

Feel really bad for Bassey - but he was at fault for all three goals and you can add in the one up at County at the weekend

  6. Pause the play at each goal and Bassey is so far out of position its unreal - he was even lagging so far behind play and desperately trying to get back that he clearly caused the collision with Aribo. He was also lost at sea at two other chances they should have scored. Second goal he was in the left wing back position, ahead of Borna. Third, he's occupying the right Central defensive position standing right in front of Goldson (he should have been right where their player scored from, in the left sided Centre Half's position). If someone has the technical savvy to do screen grabs of the goals - it's really clear how much he fucked up and dragged Borna all over the shop (who I fully accept was also poor tonight).

Of course he improved second half going to left back because we played with a centre half that actually took up a proper position - had Borna stayed on, I've no doubt he would have improved too. Both are decent left backs - neither should be found in the centre of the defence

I don't necessarily blame Bassey (well I do a bit) as he was played out of position - but anyone defending his play tonight, and not understanding how it impacted Borna, really doesn't understand the game

It's literally our only hope for the season that Gio will review the game and see how bad Bassey is as a left sided centre half against any decent team (and I'm not really getting at him, I actually like him as a left back).

His worst performance in a Rangers jersey tonight, and there has been a fair few.

Would punt in the summer. Discuss.

Was covering for Bassey first half who was out of position at every goal - was still shite, but watch where Bassey was at each goal - including running back towards goal to run into Aribo!! Wrong side of Vickers. And no where near the box at the goal on halftime.

Borna was poor, but Bassey was a disaster

Think it’s eye opening the lack of people backing him after this. When Gerrard had fuck ups and people calling for his head there was plenty backing him up after. Gio seems to have unanimously lost the support tonight, slightly worrying. Sunday is huge now.

I think he'll come good - tonight will be a steep learning curve for him, and he deserves a huge amount of criticism for the initial set up of the team, but he strikes me as someone who will learn from it. Postacoglu was howling at the start - he seems to have brought them together. Gio needs to do the same - the issue he has is he doesn't have a pre season to sort it out, or two transfer windows.

Helanader, Balogun, Jack, Morelos and Ramsey can significantly change things

What happens over the next few weeks will be an indicator if he can

Totally understandable backlash tonight, but think we need to lick our wounds and come back stronger

He was the only one marking a celtic shirt for the 3rd goal , while Goldson is nowhere and fails to close down for the 2nd goal . And the first one Bassey  he was down with a head injury ....

End of the day everyone of them has had a shocker and need to get the finger out

Why was it Borna's role to mark a player in the centre of the box - because Bassey was a mile out of position. Bassey injured himself because of poor positioning and running back into Aribo, and he was the wrong side of Vickers for the other goal..

Borna is covering two positions half the time, and has fuck all chance to do that!

Nice one. I’m in London stuck for places due to the poorly-named Green Man being sold out.

Going to be around Bishopsgate hoping for at least a bit more of a blue crowd wherever I do end up.

Watched a game in here, decent beer, nice food, was a pretty neutral crowd, but they did show Scottish football

On Worship Street - so not so far from Bishopsgate if your stuck for a place to go. Big screen, multiple TV's and good food/drink

I don’t think we sign Butcher or Woods if English teams weren’t banned from Europe.  Massive signings though.

Absolutely, but I also don't think we would have signed them without Souness being there - players had options to go overseas or wait it out, he was definitely a draw and gave the club credibility.

We hadn't won a title since 1978, and weren't looking particularly likely to change things until he arrived

  12. Souness by some distance - based on where the club were at that time, his profile, and then the immediate impact with signings and that title run.

Was on the pre season tour that year absolutely amazed at seeing the likes of Chris Woods and Avi Cohen, to then hear, while we were travelling across Germany, that we were signing Terry Butcher, the England captain, right after a World Cup - was totally mind blowing stuff

Gazza and Laudrup were amazing signings as players, but I think both were seen (incorrectly) as somewhat damaged goods. Mo Johnston is definitely up there as one of the great wtf signing that no one ever saw coming, but Souness, for me, changed everything about the club from day one.

Nagy and Zimmer sacked not unexpected but surprised at Miami firing Flores, seems a bit short sighted.

    Judge still hanging on…

Interesting both the Bears and Vikings fired their General Managers too - some proper house cleaning.

Kind of hope it means Harbaugh with complete control in Chicago, with maybe Fangio back as DC

Agree about Flores - strange one given the turnaround mid season

  14. Just got the e-mail from Rangers saying as a season ticket holder I am getting to watch the game on RTV 'at no additional cost'

Am I the only person that this absolutely pisses off when I have paid for a ticket for the game and the club are no doubt going to sell, RTV access to anyone for a tenner.

I get it wasn't their decision/fault - just the wording does my nut in when they provide something like this when we have already bought tickets

Restrictions don't start until 27th mate. We could have 50000 in Ibrox tonight if we wanted.

I'm confused - I assumed St Mirren on Sunday was now behind closed doors (or with 500 fans only).

It says restrictions start on the 26th December?

Would love to be wrong on this but pretty sure Sunday is gubbed for fans??
