The other thing is the Dutch mentality to always blood younger players. I really think we need that. For all the lip service we’ve played to our academy the funds are not there in our game to rely on importing expensive signings. We need to find a way to getting our younger players on the park. I think someone like Gio could be fantastic for someone like Patterson, and even guys like Aribo and Kent. We talk with Patterson being in competition with Tav but in a Dutch team there is far more interchangeability of positions. I think he would find a way. Plus the dynamic movement and interchangeability we could have in forward areas would be really interesting. When Advocaat came in he immediately recognised he had a player in Barry Ferguson and built things around him. We need that sort of outlook. 

Lampard always gives me the impression of a bit of a wide boy.

One thing I would say about Lampard, he wasn’t frightened to play youngsters, albeit his hand was forced with the embargo. They still had other players that could have played but he gave players like Gilmour, etc a game if they were good enough.  Something Gerrard never did and a massive failing of his. 

Brilliant player, always looked effortless to him with fantastic technique but he worked like fuck for the team as well.
One of the few players to leave us to realise their potential to the highest level.
When you see him being a captain of the national team it shows the mentality and leadership qualities as well.
