Morelos was already notoriously unfit and then he missed >10 games with a muscle injury. Danilo would probably be back by the time Clement could get him match fit. (And that’s putting aside all the other reasons not to consider it.)

Morelos hardly missed a game through injury for over four and a half years.  Wish some of our present squad were equally ‘unfit’.

Doesn’t mean I think we should bring him back, his motivation and time with us is gone.

  2. First half was pretty turgid but we scored at the right time.  Second half was pretty comfortable, a bit more care with final ball and could have had at least a couple more.  In the end, a routine win.  Thought nobody shown up well in the first half, second half: McCausland took the eye.  Good to see Lawrence get a full 90 minutes.  Don’t get the negative comments about him, think he will be a positive for us once he gets fully up to speed.

  3. It’s difficult to overstate how diabolical the last two summer transfer windows have been.  With the odd exception (Butland), every signing we have made seems to have been a downgrade on the one they were bought to replace, who were already not deemed good enough.  It’s evident that we need another clear out but that’s the easy bit, it’s getting the right players in that’s the problem.

  4. Clement was right in his prematch press conference.  It’s our attitude and performance that matters not the oppositions.  We need to get our house in order and go out and give them regular doings, making them fearful and apprehensive about facing us.

As a fan base, wish we would drop all this talk of them trying harder against us.  In many ways, it gives a pre-match boost to them making it seem we are apprehensive about facing them rather than the other way round.

  5. Don't condone his theatrics but think it’s typical of the Scottish game, the Scottish media and fans in general, that they more attention to that kind of thing rather than bad tackles.  Thought they were a couple on Cantwell today that he did well to keep his composure afterwards.
Can’t help seeing the growing similarity in treatment of Cantwell and that of Morelos.  Compete emphasis on any negative reaction from them, with literally nothing said on the amount of abuse they take.

There’s no way any of the CB could have challenged for that ball with the way we were set up. It was drilled and the boy headed it 5m from the half way line.

Should have been somebody in midfield. Or the manager sets them up differently.

They do it all the time so shouldn’t have been a surprise. Line up top with 3. One drops deep to flick onto Miovski who runs behind

Someone has to challenge.  Maybe it should have been a midfielder but the CBs have the game in front of them and i dont see any reason why they couldnt have pushed up on them.  As it was they ended up in no-man’s land, neither attacking the ball or lying deep to negate the run behind.
Experienced centre backs should be able to make some decisions/changes themselves to negate the tactics being adopted against them.  As i said, they were forewarned five minutes before.  Cant they use a bit of initiative rather than just blindly follow the managers set up  (if indeed either of them were doing that, which i doubt).  Both of them are well over 30, theyre not inexperienced youngsters.

Lundstrum does a lot of dirty work that he doesn't get credit for, his contribution is in our possession stats.

Tav and Barisic are woeful imo, crossing in general is gash, decision making poor, they look so easy to defend against.  Would be happy to see them both leave.

Goldson is an enigma, has the ability to be the best CB in the league but he's letting us down too often with the simple ones.

Agree with you about Goldson.  Most of the time, he looks pretty assured and accomplished but he’s been caught on his heels too often throughout his time with for my liking.  To be fair to him, I think these lapses are exacerbated by the fact that we don’t score enough goals.

The long ball out of defence for their goal today should be meat and drink for a commanding centre back but neither of our CBs challenged for it (or followed the run).  It was made worse by the fact that ww had been caught similarly flat footed minutes before when Butland bailed us out.

He should have scored, don’t see why he shouldn’t be criticised for missing another chance, it’s not a one off with him, the other players are being  criticised aswell for missed chances, lammers shouldn’t  be exempt from it because he came on late in the game, he still missed a chance to win us the match and I’m sure he missed another chance before it it.

I agree.  Chance at the end is the kind of opportunity your big players should put away at least 9 times out of 10.

Lammers wasn’t the only one who missed chances today but, from everything I’ve seen so far, it looks like he’s one of those players who flatters to deceive with no end product.  Hope I’m wrong.

So if all clubs hire 100% white people we have to assume they were just the best people for the job?

I agree the best person for the job should be hired. But if you are racist you're not hiring the best person for the job, you're hiring a white person. You're assuming that no hiring manager has any bias.

I don't think quota's are anywhere near perfect and they have a lot of issues, but as we all know, there are a lot of shit people in this country who would avoid hiring minorities in favour of white people so they really are the only option.

  10. Seems unlikely to me.  No DOF in place and I can hardly see this being a Clement initiative either.  Probably Kent’s agent making it known he wants an escape route.

Kent’s had his time and opportunity with us.  Much rather we gave McCausland or Lowry an opportunity to stake their claim.

Centre backs are supposed to be an important partnership in a starting 11 mate if one of them are not pulling there weight then it's fucked and you will lose sloppy goals. And i actually wanted Katic to get a chance at Rangers even though he was deemed not good enough by a couple of managers.

My point being I do rate Soutar to do well for us and would rather he had a future than Goldson.

Agree with you over Katic.  More physical, aggressive and better in the air (in both boxes) than anything we have had at the moment.  Not the finished article by any means but could have developed if given a chance after his injury.  Never going to be a favourite for the many who look for centre backs to be elegant/good on the eye rather than solid defensively.

Not sure on Soutar but given the shambles our defence has been over the last two games, I think he’s due a try out in his preferred position on the right side of the defence to see how he gets on there.

  12. Free hit on Sunday to drop Tav, Goldson, Barasic, Lundstram, etc.  If we didn’t know before tonight, we know for certain now that most of these players lack any fight, commitment and pride in their performance.  Even the poorest Rangers teams in the past would at least show some battling qualities after a defeat at home like Sunday.  Nothing from this lot.

I know we are devoid of confidence at the present time but you would think our experienced players would at least go back to basics, avoid stupid mistakes and show some fight.  Nothing.

Respects the person he is, but didn't say anything about managerial abilities. Kinda telling.

Appreciated that he brought him here, but not much else.

Think you’re reading too much into it.  If he praises his managerial abilities it could sound as if he’s backing Beale against the clubs decision.

The way things are it could go very pear-shaped, and Davis doesn't deserve that. That's all I'm saying.

Think his connection to the club will stand him in good stead as long as his time in charge doesn’t extend to Murty levels.

  15. Beale is clearly finished as manager.  He can have no complaints, he had free rein to bring in his players and they have shown no sign of improvement, in fact they look worse than we had last season.  Still think he made to many changes in the one go but it was his decision and he will pay for it with his job.

I think now it’s how the decision and a new appointment is best managed.  We have two games between now and the international break in which they can leave Beale in charge or they sack him now and most likely have the Under 20 manager as interim.  Given the Hibs semi final disaster last season, I would opt to leave Beale in charge to the break, although neither option looks great.  This assumes they have no candidates lined up to take over in the next couple of days, which given our Boards previous lack of foresight, is unlikely.  If it takes a couple of weeks to line up and get a new manager then I think we wait, it’s imperative we get the right candidate this time.

Think it's understandable tbh. Hasn't lived up to they hype and rumours of his attitude won't go away.

Still think he has something.  Tries to do something when he gets the ball rather than just taking and passing it on.  Having watched our team pass aimlessly back and forth, side to side, for so long now, you can’t but hope he may offer us something different.
Not worried about his attitude. Baxter had attitude, Coop had attitude, Gazza had attitude.  Not saying Lowry is anything like the same level but we need someone with a bit of confidence, composure and arrogance to try things rather than the usual workhorses.

3 starts since he went there and didn't get off the bench in their previous 2 games so hopefully people don't go overboard because he scored a decent goal.

Similarly, I hope people don’t write him off or be overly negative of him, when he misses a few games when Naismith may opt for experience and work rate over ability on the ball.

How did the tarriers get off almost scot free last season

If we were top by 4pts the now, do you think we'd have as many "niggles"

Consistent with my argument, they won a lot of their games early on last season and could then coast to victory in the second half.

I do agree with you that there are certain players, I suspect Roofe is an example, who are not willing to play with niggles.  Great player though he was, Artur Numan was another you were lucky to get 30 games a season from.  I also agree that if the team is struggling, the crowd constantly on your back, that certain players may not fancy it if they don’t feel 100pc.

  19. The reported level of fitness training seemed to vary widely between Gio and Beale but we still end up with our players dropping like flies with injuries.  Similarly, we have changed our medical staff to no avail.

By law of averages, I think you can expect a reasonable number of injuries to occur each season but we seem to be getting more than our fair share.  The only thing I can put my finger on, is that we do play a lot of games combining Europe and domestic competitions, that must add up over time. Also, most of our games are pretty intense, a rightly demanding crowd wants wins at all costs and the players to go the extra mile to get them.  This is not helped by the continued failure of our team to put games to bed early on, it seems as if every week now we have go into the last 10-20 minutes either scrambling to hold on or to find winning goals from somewhere.
