He was not in the same class as Papac. Alex Cleland was a steady very average player. Always gave 100%, he did score against Celtic at Torbett towers in the 8 in a row season. I think that was Celtic's only defeat that season but they drew something like 11. he came with another Dundee United player Bollan I think his name was. 6 out of 10. And as for Papac he is an 8 all day, second only to Numan.

David Weir mentioned him in his autobiography, apparently Archie Knox absolutely hated Cleland and gave him a real hard time at Ibrox. He left to get a fresh start at Everton and a few months later Smith and Knox took over and once again Cleland got dogs abuse from Knox. Even at Everton no one ever found out why Knox disliked him so much, even Cleland didn't know, but Archie utterly despised him.

Yeah agreed. Don't get me wrong, I liked him, but Whittaker got it tight for sloppy goals we conceded from his side of full back but Papac done that a lot too.

I don't dislike Papac, he done a job. 6.5/10 player every game and thats OK.

Did we not pay £750000 for Cleland and Bollan? Scumdee Hivs wanted rid of Bollan so we were kind of put on the spot and ended up with both of them?

Bollan was a very decent player if I recall. Saw him once with Clyde at Falkirk with some mates. Fuckin' bought the lot of them he did, superb performance.
