Falkirk fury at 'mindless' Rangers fans who burned their pitch with a flare

1 Dec 2013 00:01

A CHUNK of Falkirk's £450,000 synthetic pitch burned out inside the penalty area during their 2-0 Scottish Cup defeat to the Ibrox side, with manager Gary Holt and general director David White livid over the damage.

RANGERS fans were branded “mindless” yesterday for melting Falkirk’s synthetic pitch by throwing a flare on to it.

A chunk of astroturf burned out inside the penalty area during their 2-0 Scottish Cup win over the Bairns. Falkirk paid Dutch firm Greenfields £450,000 for the pitch in the summer and manager Gary Holt was livid with the hooligans who damaged it.

He said: “I’m not happy about it. It’s mindless people who come sometimes and want to be disruptive.

“Our club is not happy. But what can Rangers do about it? It doesn’t make it right but you can’t ban everyone from coming to a game.”

Falkirk’s general manager David White agreed.

He said: “The Rangers directors in the boardroom were embarrassed about the situation and have apologised for a brand new pitch being wasted by a moment of madness. They have assured us they will pay for the damage caused by their supporters.

“We have a game on Tuesday night and we hope to get them to repair it before then.”

Rangers said: “These devices are dangerous and represent a real risk to fans, players and match officials.

“The club are investigating and will be supporting the police with their inquiries.”

That sort of journalism is infuriating. "Rangers fans were branded mindless," yeah because every fan in the North Stand threw that flare onto the pitch. Would have been better to put the emphasis onto the individual but what else can you expect?

It was always going to happen this weekend. The other side were starting to get it tight for their fans behavior, so our fans were always going to be scrutinized. The idiot that did this needs weeded out and made to pay for the damage as well as appologising to both clubs. A lifetime ban would not go amiss. No excusing the article, but it was always going to happen after the past few weeks. No one in our support should be handing the mhedia the stick to beat us with.

Apart from the odd person who mentions atmosphere, without really expanding on that, what is the actual point? It tends to just look like young idiots who like playing with fire?

Aye nobody is able to put up a decent argument as to why we should have flares. Pointless.

The turd and his mates are just dick head wankers who should be shopped to the cops. First there was trouble at Berwick and now Falkirk, where next, Ibrox? I dare him to toss one at Ibrox then we'll see what happens to him then. We don't need this shite.

I agree with your comments on the flare but there was no trouble at Berwick the fans were great that day it's all because Burley got offended at a song sung at him - don't believe the lies Ffs

Rangers fans???

Wasn't it just the one person? Fuck off

depends, are we having a go at the fellow fans around him that didnt shop the flare throwing fanny

i know we dont like grasses (hi boab) but in this case the club is losing money over it, the other 30 people around him should have all shopped the arsehole for lobbing the flare

Apparently the flare just missed one of our fans who's in a wheelchair. He says it flew past his face only missing him by about 12 inches.

Bullshit. I seen it getting threw on and it was nowhere near anyone.
