Ally McCoist's signings as Rangers Manager

Don't think all his signings have been duds but the majority have been below average players being very well paid for what they are doing.I could accept some of the poor performances over the past few years which have been dished out if the team and management were getting the same pay as most of the opposition but considering our excessive wage bill I just don't think that it has been good enough. At times we haven't looked any better physically or tactically than some of the part time teams we have played

A manager is not at fault for any player not performing or going backwards. Just 2 examples are juan veron and ozil. A player can only play well and progress if they have the natural desire to improve week after week. And some can only raise for the bigger games when they have a point to prove and some are just inconsistent performers that have the odd purple patch. Some player can adapt to a managers methods and others no matter who they are cant. Alot of managers get lucky with the unknown talent in new signings and until we have a scouting facility then we'll have more misses than hits

Thats just wrong.

There's so many things a manager can do to nurture the individual and have their development progress.

A positive working environment

Clear tactics

Player played in true position

Work on their individual weaknesses and improve their strengths

Individual motivation - arm round shoulder / boot up arse

Drop them if underperforming - otherwise they deem performances to be acceptable.

A manager manages the individuals as well as the team.

To automatically absolve them of blame for players worsening during their tenure isn't on ( although i do concede in some instances a player with a bad attitude can be equally at fault).

Some of these are mental simply because of the logic used.

So fuck if Bedoya or Mckay had international pedigree? The only thing that makes them a good signing is if they come into the team and become undropable due to their form.

Basile Boli had a great pedigree, didn't change the fact he was a terrible signing.

Same with big Flo, cracking player, terrible signing.

Every player signed is a gamble. So many contributing factors on whether they will cut it at any club. Whether they are signed as potential or proven at another club. When a player signs for a new club, its a new beginning and many who have had a bad experience at another club usually excel at a new club but just because they are good at one club doesnt mean they will be an instance success at another. Daniel Proden. Proven internationalist signed because of his pedigree and never kicked a ball for Rangers. .

Flo averaged 1 in 2, hardly terrible.

What was terrible was the decision to pay 12 million pounds for him.

Mervan Celik - rubbish

Little - sacrificed by McCoist when others should have been shown the door first

Smith - average - should never have been resigned

Clark - good player who isn't getting a fair break

Boyd - no brainer - I think you meant - no Brain! Slow, ponderous and certainly not the goal scorer than Ally (and others) would have us believe

Agree with all the ones I removed, have issues with these ones though.

Celik - Was in and out the door so fast due to admin that we never really seen him play, rubbish is very harsh.

Little- contract ran out, we still had many strikers on deals that we couldn't pay off. Don't think he is any better than anything we currently have.

Smith - has been a very able back up to Wallace, and I don't really think he has done much wrong at all, does the job he was brought in to do IMO.

Clark - has better players in front of him.

Boyd - I think he will prove you wrong and he will still be our top goalscorer come the end of the season.

sorry OP but that has to be the biggest load of shite ive seen on here since someone mentioned someone playing in a certain position

So debating the performance of the players that play and have played for the club I follow on an open debate forum called Rangers Media is deemed a load of rubbish, Aye right !!!!

Wallace - suitable for Rangers at the top level. No Numan but no complaints.

Bocanegra - dependable and a free. Did the job he was asked to do .

Ortiz -made no impact but was a free and a gamble worth taking.

Aluko - excellent and exciting.

Matt Mackay - waste of time signing him.

Bedoya - squad player. Average

Mervan Celik - zero impact and an very odd one

Cribari - good pedigree but past it. Result of zero scouting and taking guys on agents recommendation?

Faure - sorry don't rate him. Will fade away as we sign better. Maybe already has.

Agryriou - Signed on strength of his CV? Mince .

Black - this season should be his last as a first choice but he's done a decent job. Personally would have sacked him for betting against us. Sandaza was billeted for less.

Shiels - Decent player technically but we don't have a system that he fits into. I'd have signed him too tbh but he has been a fail and should look to go.

Templeton - good player but Ally doesn't seem to trust him. Jury out.

Stella - Pointless signing.

Sandaza - good player to get free for div 3 until I realised he had a stupid contract. I'd blame whoever negotiated that deal not Ally. Poorly treated in the end IMHO

Bell - solid enough. Should be re paced on next couple of years but not as a priority. Good signing.

Simonson - bang average, done his job as backup.

Foster - Decent enough signing for the lower leagues but should be nowhere near first 11 next year.

Moshni - Decent for level but has to go before next season.

Smith -reliable backup. Not sure he was really needed.

Law - done ok for our level. Expect him to be a squad player in future.

Peralta - hasn't shown enough and doesnt seem he will get another chance. Maybe worth a go at RB if Foster get injured. Again next season he'll be away.

Daly - good impact and reliable pro. Happy enough as squad player .

Boyd - good experience and improved attitude. Again a decent signing .

Zaliukas - too early to know. Jury out.

Robinson - pointless.

Wallace - Decent

Bocanegra - Average

Ortiz - Poor

Aluko - Decent player

Matt Mackay - shocking

Bedoya - Shocking

Mervan Celik - Name says it all

Little - should still be here

Cribari - Horrible.

Faure - Should be starting. Only 21 and has played for France at every level bar the top XI. Something far wrong there.

Agryriou - Horrible

Black - puts himself about, decent midfield general, bet against his own team. See ye

Shiels - average, played out of position

Temps - has no impact when he starts. Hasnt progressed at all

Stella - who?

Sandazza - Stole a wage

Kyle - Stole a wage

Bell - Should command his box more instead of flapping his arms at fresh air

Simonson - meh

Foster - Fast. That is all. Couldnt pass 5 yards straight

Moshni - Thinks hes better than what he is, Terrible attitude as well

Smith - Squad player played on wing. Half decent free kick

Law - Just noticed he played at cowdenbeath, missing for a year

Peralta - Should be sold.

Clark - Pace, decent finisher in the box. Not prolific enough as I thought he would be when in the team

Daly - Puts himself about, causes problems for their defence. Quite like him atm

Boyd - LOL. Looks 2 stone heavier

Zal - Unlucky with injuries.

Miller - Doesnt seem to have lost pace or desire. Good to see. Still would like more goals from him aswell

Robinson - shouldnt be here. Gallacher should

Some debate on other threads about the calibre of player Ally is bringing to the club. Alot on here claiming that the manager's signing are all duds and that Ally can't be trusted with the club's money on new players. I disagree and would say that he can recognise and attract a player ok but its coaching them into better players that is the problem. Have a look for yourself

Wallace - quality

Bocanegra - quality

Ortiz - little or no impact

Aluko - Fantastic signing

Matt Mackay - decent but didnt break through to the team but had good pedigree as full internationalist

Bedoya - Same as Matt McKay

Mervan Celik - no impact

Lyttle - good for the league we were in at that time

Cribari - same as Lytlle

Faure - still is a good squad player

Agryriou - little impact

Black - put as shift in everytime he wears a jersey

Shiels - good in his first season

Temps - Potential was there for all to see and all managers would have jumped at this signing

Stella - little or no impact

Sandazza - sacked so we dont know how succesful he would have been. Proven spl scorer

Kyle - deserves credir for dropping down the leagues and coming to us. his career was over so always a gamble

Bell - success so far

Simonson - good back up

Foster - Pace is important but offers little else

Moshni - a gamble but still thing there is a player in there.

Smith - good squad player

Law - same as temps

Peralta - little or no impact

Clark - class little player

Daly - success

Boyd - no brainer

Zal - back up squad player

Miller - experience is vital

Robinson - smart move

How has this changed since last posted and what are your feelings now. To everyone not just the OP.
