Rangers manager Mark Warburton has come under fire from one of his former players at Brentford.

Warburton has got off to a flying start at Ibrox, but Bees defender Harlee Dean has taken a dig at his gung-ho tactics and reckons his failure to work on set-pieces last season may have even cost the London club Premier League promotion.

Dean, who has played over 150 times for Brentford, said: “If you look at individual centre-halves in the league I don’t think there are many better than what we have here. But last year we didn’t look like that. We got left two v one and two v two.

“We know we’ve got people around us now and I hope we keep a lot more clean sheets and make ourselves look a lot better. We’re focusing on set-pieces. If we can add to the 10 goals from centre-half combined then we’ve done well.

“We’ve just repeated set-pieces and free-kicks and knowing where you’ve got to be. Last year we didn’t have one session on set-pieces and it showed on the pitch. That was Warbs’ way. Perhaps that’s where we fell short."

Despite Dean’s claims and just months after Warburton guided the Bees to the Championship play-offs his former club were being knocked out of the Capital One Cup last night by League Two Oxford at Griffin Park.

Marinus Dijkhuizen, who succeeded Warburton said he was surprised by his players’ lack of leadership

in their “awful” and “embarrassing” 4-0 defeat.

Shocker, player slates former manager and arselicks current manager!

We see this sorta thing umpteen times every season. It's simply another player trying to get in the good books of his present boss.

Ask the player how their new set pieces worked out at Oxford game ? lol?/quote]

Being fair he didn't play it was reserves and youngsters against Oxford. They did fluke a draw when at full strength at the at the weekend. Dean is in the last year of his contract AFAIK so sucking up to the boss is expected. He may forget that MW and Brentfords chairman still get on well though.

You can't please everyone all of the time, but I wouldn't read too much into this to be honest. There will be times when we are caught short in defence but that is the nature of the formation.

From the games I've seen so far I think it is fairly obvious that set-pieces are rehearsed, so I'm surprised by the comment regarding this.

I had a quick skim at his Wikipedia, I'm sure Warburton had a go at him for moaning publically that he wasn't in the team then later on in the season the gaffer dropped him for someone who came in on loan. Maybe why wee Harlee doesn't wike Marky warky anymore :(

To be fair to the journo who wrote this, he did have a dig near the end of the article as Brentford got shagged last night.

He said: “We’re all together. It’s a squad. It’s the management, the staff and the players. The manager has got our backing. He’s supported us and we’ll support him.

“He’s dedicated to us and we’re dedicated to him. We’re going to try hard for the rest of the season.

“Ever since I signed for Brentford, he’s backed me. I had a tough spell at the beginning of the season. He stuck with me and I want to repay him.

“I think all the boys want him to stay but what I want and what will happen is neither here nor there. Could we have got there without him? No. Do we owe a lot to him? Yes. He’s got our full backing.

As I thought, a non story ~ he's claimed his comments were taken out of context by the media.

Comments in media were taken out of context as usual. For the record Warbs was a top man and manager, it was a pleasure to work with him.

Journo's talking shit is not an unknown phenomenon. Don't care WTF he thinks to be honest, he can love or hate MW and it won't change my mind that I think we finally have a manager we can trust to get the job done. With DW by his side then the Rangers mantle will be upheld and I am sure we will move forward.

There will be defeats along the way but I am sure as hell there is going to be a damn sight better quality of football, that's all we wanted.
