Playing next Sunday, last year same venue, no minutes silence or poppies on display. It's clear his purposely seeks to cause controversy and that's how he'll be remembered as a player, which in itself is odd. There have been many, many nationalist Northern Irishman to play in Britain and none of them felt it necessary to parade their politics on the park. They knew where they were plying their trade, they knew not bite the hand that fed them and they probably had friends that were Welsh, Scottish, English and Northern Irish Unionists. Banner 343 Posted November 3, 2015 Share Posted November 3, 2015 I think he is a scumbag however the wearing of a poppy is a personal show of rememberance and no-one should feel obligated or forced to wear one.Why give him such media attention, he wouldnt get the level of attention for not wearing a pink ribbon or other displays of charity.The poppy represent remberance of the fallen but it is also a charity (The British Legion). To wear one means you are donating to the charity to support veterans and current serving members of the Armed Forces, as well as the upkeep of Gardens Of Rememberance ect. I hope every team that displays it on their kit is dontating something to the Legion or it is a meaningless show of conformity.We discussed the ITV presenters decision not to wear on today in the office. We are all serving members of the Armed Forces and couldnt give a fuck if she wears one or not (she does by the way, just not on TV).
