Tav and Goldson

No one has been a fiercer critic of them in previous seasons than myself, but can anyone name me 2 more improved players?

the individual errors have vanished (ok I know about Goldson at Easter Road) but I think Tav has added something more to his game this season. I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly, but he has.

he was my man of the match last night especially 40 minutes in a monsoon and lightning storm

I don’t need to remind anyone of our defensive record, but we’ve only conceded in 3 or 4 games in 14 is it? Mon to fuck 🇬🇧

We defend as a whole team, rarely does a team play through us, think whats changed is that the players get it and understand their roles and carry them out, credit lies with Gerrard/Beale as much as the players but concentration levels have improved, our side is also tremendously fit as well.

They're like men possessed. Entirely focused, driven, and leading by example.

Tav is now the captain few thought he could be. Goldson continues doing what he has done, but having cut out pretty much all the lapses that he was culpable of.

The desire and steel they show is flowing through the team, and is evident in the gaffer every time he is interviewed. Last night's "don't fuck with us" at the end is proof of the players/ coaching squad bond.

Very early days, but we're a different animal this season. These 2 are at the core of it.

7 months ago I wanted them and the vast majority of the squad gone, the transformation has been brilliant so far.

The key is consistency, it's still only late October so we've got a long way to go yet and bigger tests will be coming up over the next few months.

I’ve got into countless arguments backing tav, look last year he was shite going by his own standards he really struggled for form, even when the team were playing well, this year he looks to have got the form of 2 seasons ago back, the form that made him head and shoulders the best right back in the country

im just glad there doesn’t look like there will be much arguing over him this year, he’s in the form of his life but so are a lot of the boys in our team by the look of the start we have had to this season...of all seasons

I really want to see these players against another top outfit. Leverkusen were great and our system only saw us lose 1 nil in a very bizarre set of circumstances in the 2nd leg but I think they were there for the taking in the 2nd half of first leg(even if they had another couple gears to go up). That said, our organisation is close to that of Walters European team but we finally have players capable of keeping the ball and playing it further up the field which we lacked at times before. I really look forward to our European games these days.

I've always been a huge fan of Goldson and Tav (especially) and think some of the criticism they receive is ridiculous tbh.

For a while, Tav seemed to be the only player in the team that wasn't allowed to play at anything other than 100% with zero mistakes allowed. I understand that because he's captain, he needs to lead by example etc, but some of the shit he got blamed for was crazy imo.

I forget who we were playing (Kilmarnock?) but Tav lost possession at the opposition corner flag, and minutes later, the other team went up and scored (after passing through the rest of the team unchallenged) and Tav still got the blame.

Both - along with a few others - have definitely improved this season though.

This is without doubt the best Tav has ever played for us.

He’s stepped into his role as a leader and he’s starting to look like a proper Rangers captain

Goldson is winning me over, he still has the odd moment in him but for the most part he’s been solid and he’s finally starting to hit the target with some headers

The only thing Tav is missing now is his free kicks from when he first signed. He has drastically improved in all other areas, just miss seeing him smash them in from anywhere at a deadball.

That said, hes now our PK specialist so he's getting a fair number of goals anyway. What an improvement over the last season or two. Outstanding

Yeah , I have to put my hands up and say I'd have chased the two of them last season , although to be fair I'd have chased half the team after their collapse after New Year .

I've never taken to Goldson , and I've been crying out for us to sign a big dominant CH . Well , he's proven me wrong , and this season hes been a collusus in the center of that defense , in fact the kind of defender I'd hoped we'd sign .

Tavernier , on the other hand , we'd already seen how good he is , but last season I thought was poor , very poor , but its good to see him back to his old self and his contribution to the team has been immense .

The OP is quite right to highlight these two but let's not forget others too that have upped their game this season - Kent , Davis , Kamara , Arfield to name a few .

When Morelos missed the penalty in the League Cup final many blamed Tavernier for not taking it despite him being off penalties.

When Leverkusen scored their 3rd goal at Ibrox I remember people blaming Tavernier despite him not even being on the pitch.  Polster had replaced him.

Aye some of the shit you read on here is brilliant tbh 😂

Tav and Goldson have both made mistakes tbf, but the perfect player doesn't exist, and especially not in our league.

You’re not allowed to be positive, you’ve said bad things about Gerrard and these players

Cast your mind back to the Motherwell play off when only one or two players went in to help Moshni this team would have been volleying the Motherwell players all over the place if they tried that shit with us now.

I know mate I've been walking about with my face tripping me for nearly a week now.

Maybe Barker will start against Livingston and you could start another anti Gerrard thread to cheer yourself up a bit?

Excited to see a potential square go between the blue boys

Both have been tremendous this season. Goldson still has lapses but the difference is we aren't being punished for them. He had another last week against the muck that he got away with.

Defence, infact the whole team and management have been excellent so far. Need to keep it up,we've still won the square root of fuck all.
