Ross. Fucking. Stewart.

If we're being linked with random shite keepers from Germany and Ross Stewart, this is going to be a very long summer transfer window:

PSB you have made me a sad man today of all days. Go and sit on the naughty step.

If he was from Spain we'd be getting excited.

It may be a 3rd choice striker i.e. a replacement for Itten.

Plus its likely newspaper gossip

You’d be excited if we were linked with a guy with an average scoring record from the Spanish third tier?

People seemed pretty excited about Josh Maja and he had a similar goalscoring record (and worse games:goals ratio) in League One to Stewart with less than half as many assists. As a cheap, homegrown signing, he makes sense to me.

Josh Maja wasn't 26.

Has he done anything since to suggest he's significantly improved as a player? When we were supposedly looking at him, he was also being suggested as a Morelos replacement (whereas Stewart would probably be a replacement for a backup like Itten), and would've probably cost 2-3 times what we'd have to pay for Stewart or more. Plus, he's homegrown and probably on ~50% or less of Maja's wages.

Not the most overwhelming rumour going about but I’ve learned to never write off a signing before they’ve played, plenty of signing who should’ve been good and have been shite or looked shite on paper and turned out to be good. You never really know with a transfer.

No idea what he's done.

We're not signing someone to replace a player we've spent a year trying to give away. Itten isn't a backup. He's totally out of the picture and is only here until we can find someone stupid enough to take him/we can agree a payoff. Same with Simpson. In terms of domestic homegrowns, we've already got Jack, Souttar and (probably) Arfield and Wright who count towards out domestically trained player quota. We need 4 domestically trained and 4 club trained.

Okay, but Itten's squad status isn't really relevant to my previous point. The point is we clearly plan to have a third-choice striker and, if Itten is deemed totally insufficient, we'll have to sign someone else. Instead of him or in addition to him isn't important. We'll be aiming to fill that 'backup' striker role and, clearly, it'll have to be someone relatively cheap with a limited ceiling.

There's no point pretending RS being homegrown isn't an advantage either. It clearly is.

Why do people think Stewart would be cheap?

In demand players from that league move up to the championship for 2-4 million these days regularly and if Norwich and Swansea are after him then there will probably be more.

Thought he was out of contract in the summer but still one year left.

No chance we'll be getting him cheap if interest from other sides in England.

Would be a good squad addition.

We really don’t need any more squad players ffs. Half our first team can take up that role.

our current squad players can all go imo.

We need four or five first team picks, stick ons, first name on the team sheet type players

It’s what we’ve needed for a long tome. Our strongest team on paper only has two players, Lundtram and Bassey, who were signed after 2019. It’s no wonder if feels so stale and stagnant.

Were you enthused when we signed Tavernier from Wigan? Bassey from Leicester reserves? Morelos from Finland? Did Ryan Jack from Aberdeen excite you? Kamara for £50K from Dundee? What is a first team pick anyway? We thought Ramsey from Juventus was one? Diallo from Manchester United too.

I could quote you 10x more failures than you can quote me decent players.

Fact is we need to stop buying lots of cheap and crossing our fingers we get one or two decent players from it.
We need a targeted approach that negates the term “take a punt”

we need to change.

btw Kamara now looks like a 100k player and Dalio is a squad play for sure, he will be loaned out next year to an English 2nd division team
