If we win the Europa League will we get a spot in the CL groups?

Does the 3rd place team in the CL groups still drop into the EL?

There's no groups next season.

So it looks like 2 qualifying rounds for the CL for a potential (if correct) £60 million pounds. Does anyone know the projected money for the Europa league next season?

Throwing away the title this year could set us back years.

I wonder what the difference in our  transfer budget would be between qualifying for the Champions League and not.

10 million? More??

They’ve had millions more money than us for just about every year for the last 12, and they scraped past us this season, when most of us think we were shite for about half the season. We got to the last 16 of the EL  and were maybe a bit unlucky to get through, but a large number of us want every player, bar 2 or 3, binned.

Margins are very fine. 3 or 4 good signings (which we could potentially afford) could make a huge difference.

It obviously won’t help, but won’t set us back years.

But, what you're missing is that they have been saving money.

Spending just enough to keep them on top here but not investing heavily for European football.

They have cash in the bank, and can outspend us anytime they like.

It hard to believe that not getting the Champions league bounty wouldn't have a negative effect on us.

If we do qualify does that sum not get split between us and them?

I said it wouldn't have a huge negative effect on us.

As you acknowledge, and I've posted several times on here, their model is too just spend enough to stay ahead. They fucked it for 55, but we then did the same and didn't invest properly in our squad.

As the two teams are so close, and they have that policy next year's CL money, or lack of it, won't set us back years.

I thought the £60m banded about above was only nearer £30m

Anyone who thinks the CL money won’t have a bearing on things are deluding themselves

We need a rebuild on a shoestring budget…

You might be able to pick up some guys in Scotland - Armstrong/Watson as 2 examples

Probably at least £2m for Shankland as he enters the final year of his contract

Aberdeen would hold us to ransom for Miovski

Need to hope Nils Koppen has a list of young, mobile players who have already played in Holland/Belgium etc who can come in and improve us

Whether they scrape past us or sail past us, the problem is they just keep beating us, it's been eight seasons now since we got back into the top flight, and in that time they've won five trebles, one double and it'll be another double if we don't beat them at Hampden.

That's all the while of managing to save up cash reserves of about £70m, that's without even accounting for the CL money they'll get this year, they do just enough to stay a bawhair ahead of us, but if it goes tits up, like it did in 2021, they can then blow us out the water in the transfer market and it just instantly puts us on the back foot again.

Being close to them is an illussion.

Automatic CL qualifying is such a huge domestic advantage. Fewer early season qualifiers that disrupts your pre season, the guaranteed extra money and less matches played if you don’t drop down.

Domestically our long Europa league runs have been detrimental to our post Xmas form.

CL money and then full focus on the league would do for me next year. And that can set the foundations for success years after.

Would you not just be better giving up with that mindset? Surely it’s causing you more grief than anything else when you’ve decided being close to them is an illusion?

We were in a title race, won the league cup and in the Scottish Cup final with one of our worst squads since coming back up.

If that's not close then what is?

1 point out of 12 really isn’t close.

When it matters, they show up. We can’t, and haven’t, really laid a glove on them in a meaningful game in three years.

The only reason we were in a title race at all is because they got complacent and dropped points they should never have dropped given their quality.

It's more like £30m for them due to the 10 year coefficient split. If we qualify we would get about £10m less. This is before prize money for wins etc.

It was over £30m last season.

The revenue has increased especially with 2 extra games.

Take in gate receipts etc its at least 40m for them without any money for points gained from 8 matches.

Could also argue a major factor in our cup win was because someone else put the scum out earlier in the comp.
