They dropped 31 points against the rest. They won the league beating us 3/4 times and even then it might not have been enough if we'd took care of our business against the rest.

Thats true. First thing any proper manager does is sort the spine out. Souness first signing was actually himself, that was the midfield sorted. Then he signed woods as goalie and butcher as cenrtre half in short order. Already had McCoist and fleck up front. He worked his team round that solid core for years. Its bewildering that for years we havent sorted out a really decent cenre half and took things from there. Instead we just seem to sign players in some sort of haphazard way with no real plan.

14 million spent last summer on Danilo, Dessers, Lammers and Cifuentes, 5.3 million on Danilo alone and 13 million spent on 3 strikers, before doing next to fuck all about the defence was mind blowing. 

What in the fuck Beale was planning that summer is something Beale wouldn't be able to answer.

To be fair I think that's what Propper was signed for, but it's all relative an open midfield leaves our defence exposed. Doesn't matter if we have Franco Baresi at the back if they're left that open whilst having to cover for full backs.

As much as I think Lundstram moving on was the right thing, we are missing the midfielder who used to fall back and cover that area.
