The Scottish league isn't physical as such. The players up here are actually a lot weaker, slower, generally less powerful, etc than elsewhere. 
The Scottish league is more aggressive and the referees let a lot more go, that's the difference.
Some no mark playing for Hibs or Motherwell will be allowed to come out and smash someone after 2 mins of a game, they wouldn't get away with it elsewhere. 
Persistent fouls are another thing that don't really get punished up here. You'll notice the same player can go out and make foul after foul to disrupt the game, with absolutely no censure from the referee. 
We've had sub standard loanees previously but I think it really depends on the attitude and hunger of the individual. If they want to succeed at their parent club or another big club, including us, they've got to come up here and stand out. If they want it enough, they will. They've clearly all got the ability.
