I've only met the great man once,in a petrol station in Newton Mearns,had Rangers top on and waiting in queue when got grabbed into the tightest Bear hug,then Fernando appears grinning over my shoulder,cherish that memory more than ever now 

Saw him in a retail park in Hamilton a while back, his condition had taken hold although he was able to walk unaided but had difficulty with speech. Normally I would maybe have given a nod but with his circumstance I decided to tell him I had been a big fan of his football and wish him all the best going forward. The guy actually thanked me (with difficulty) for stopping  to say hello. Can’t believe how humble and sad this made me feel, seeing this once International professional football player (athlete) in this condition, genuinely grateful at a fan just taking the time to acknowledge him. Can’t say how much I respect him for tackling this terrible condition head on...
