found this excellant article over on FF about the Glassy maybe the OP should read and learn

Life while following Rangers can be pretty testing. Right now the team are struggling on the park while off the park the regime continue to blunder from one fiasco to another. However, a beacon in these trying times has been the way in which sections of the Rangers support have well and truly covered themselves in glory.

As per usual, however, the good deeds done by the Bears has went totally unmentioned by the media who are determined to carry on their campaign of lies, smears and innuendo, based on nothing but blind hatred of the Rangers support. How else do you explain the ignoring of the herculean efforts of some Rangers fans who have now, to date, raised over £50,000 to donate to the hospital at Erskine that looks after disabled ex-servicemen and women? Or of the female Bear who took it upon herself to organise a collection which involved Rangers fans filling up shoeboxes with items that the troops serving in Iraw and Afghanistan would find useful, like soap, shampoo and the like? Their blanking of these issues speaks volumes when you take into account the number of non-stories that are run simply to show the Rangers support in a bad light. Here is a story that anywhere else would have been shouted from the rooftops; but since it would involve the scum of the Scottish press writing something positive about the Rangers support then it is ignored totally. Of course, there is something to be said for the guys involved not wanting praise from filth who hate them anyway but if ever an indicator was needed to show what the fourth estate in this country think of the Rangers support then this is it. They can’t even bring themselves to highlight ordinary men and women going out of their way to help others.

On a lighter note, but still in keeping with the notion of how the support is providing a light in the current gloom, it’s been a real pleasure to have made the acquaintance of so many good Bears via the Glaswegian Bar in the past few years. The Glassy, situated right next to Bridge Street underground, has became probably the most conspicuous and well-known Rangers pub in Glasgow since the current owner took it over and it has certainly been at the hub of a lot of projects the Rangers support has undertaken recently, such as being the place where the Sam English Commemoration Committee held their meetings and is the scene for regular Rangers quizzes.

What is very notable about the place is the number of different RSCs that use it for a base before and / after the games. Take a trip into it after a home game and you’ll hear accents from virtually every corner of the British Isles. At one point or another this season, Rangers fans from Dublin, Belfast, Portadown, Cardiff, Surrey, Ipswich, the East and West Midlands, various parts of London, Aberdeen, the Orkney Isles, Merseyside, Sheffield and just about everywhere in between, not to mention the many who have been in from all sorts of European cities, have made their presence known by way of songs, banners, polo jerseys or just general banter with the locals. It is very heartening to see that, despite the difficulties we are facing as a Club in general right now, the support is as loyal as it’s always been and people from hundreds of miles away still feel an emotional pull towards Glasgow G51.

Maybe those of us who stay closer to Ibrox and can make every game take it for granted at times and it’s always a very welcome experience to meet Bears who can only get to a few games a season but who maintain their enthusiasm for Rangers from afar. Talking to the lads from Orkney, for example, reminds you of what Rangers mean to people who don’t have a connection with Glasgow but still have a passion for Rangers as strong as that of anybody from Scotland’s premier city and slightly beyond. Even when the Club isn’t as we’d like it to be, the fact that so many people still feel as strongly about Rangers is very heartening.

A trip to the Glassy can be the perfect way to round off a day at Ibrox no matter where you come from. A visitor can spend ages looking at the marvellous black and white photos on the wall – where else would you see an image of Sir John Ure Primrose or Sammy English, for example? – or looking at the memorabilia donated from RSCs from places as diverse as Dublin, Baku, Brunei, Vietnam and Rutherglen.

One thing Glasgow isn’t – thankfully – short of is pubs where Bluenoses can meet likeminded people and discuss all things Rangers. In fact, a couple of pubcrawls of a number of Rangers boozers from Cambuslang to Rutherglen, Bridgeton, Dennistound and the City Centre have been organised via the FF website in recent times. If you like a decent bevvy in the company of fellow Bears it’s something well worth undertaking with your mates. The excellent www.bluenosebars.com website can help you plan your route. But just make sure the Glaswegian forms part of it! If you’ve not been in you won’t be disappointed.

Yours in Rangers,

AYRSHIRE BILLY BOY

I really don't like this pub, real bangers inhabit it most of the time

The place is pretty shameless, some on here say it is great but it is a dive similar to a blackpool fun pub

Anyone know when it is shutting?

hate to disappoint you and your mate Davie, but Glasgow's premier Rangers pub isn't going to close :D an appeal has been lodge and both big S and the brewers are quite confident the the neighbours and the local Councillor (Danny Alderslowe of the Scottish Green Party) will be shown up as the liars and sectarian bigots they really are, I'll give you something to take back to your mate, the Union ,Saltire or the Red Hand of Ulster flags aren't sectarian even if the have plastic flowers on them for decoration :P

Another complaint made against the Glaswegian found that traffic noise coming from cars travelling along Bridge Street was greater than the music coming from the Glaswegian ;) how can the neighbours be taken seriously when they complain about a bus parked on the road outside the pub FFS where would you expect the driver to park it

I'll pass on you best wishes to the management, staff and real Rangers supporters who've supported the Glaswegian in these stressful few month and I'll raise a glass 2hhqiz5.gif and wish the Glassy all the very best in years to come.....

FUCK YOU, THE NEIGHBOURS AND THE LEFTY TREE HUGGING COUNCILLOR

So it's just the neighbours above that are complaining then with petty unfounded complaints? Good, love it when they make a backside of themselves.

Why is this in the BD

Surely is is the sort of thing Muff was talking about in his earlier thread???

It's a Rangers pub, where Rangers fans drink before and after games. Why shouldn't it be?

Because it's not actually about Rangers. The football team. Just the supporters drinking in a pub.

I am not against it, just pointing it out.

Us laughing a sellick and what not is still about rangers, if you suggest this thread is, but they aren't allowed.

As I said I am not against it, but if you want to set rules here they should be followed.

Just my opinion of course.

It's probably the best place for this thread as it's one of those situations where it could be in a few different areas, OT, debating chamber are the possible other two.

It might not be directly related to Rangers Football Club but it's very much related to the fans of the club who use the Glassy as a meeting point prior to going to the games, and if the OP and possibly yourself (don't know if you've ever been in the Glassy) were ever to go into the pub you would see it is almost like a museum about the history of Rangers, everything in that pub is Rangers related and so I think this is the most appropriate place for any discussion.

As to the poster who mentioned the appeal, I really hope it isn't shut down, it's a great place to go and a great atmosphere on match days, and the times I've been back in Glasgow and in the Glassy I've never seen one bit of trouble in or out of the pub.

It's just the usual handwringing whinging bastards trying to give the fans a bad name.

Feck me what is it with people on this MB worrying about what is posted on what MB. Why not let the admin/mods worry about running the MB and the posters try and post something that could pass as even vaguely interesting that isn't a whine about what is posted in the bears den.

You whiney cants are boring the shit out of me.

Why would anyone be happy to see a Gers pub shut down?

What a fucking bizarre and highly questionable thread.

Totally agree. Like it or not, its a popular Gers pub and we need as many of them as possible.
